Child Vs. Avocado. Will My Plants Pull Through?

I was growing an avocado tree from a store bought avocado pit. I had it growing quite wonderfully. It had three nice lush leaves and a great root system. I had just put it in a container but when I came home from work today I discovered my 2 and half year old daughter had pulled all the leaves off and now it's just a stick in the ground. Will it pull through and grow new leaves or is it a lost cause?
