But we need the winter moisture for the garden.
Coffee break #98
yes we do and more coming tomorrow :)
Supposed to be warner on the weekend which should melt the ice on the driveway. While the plow removes snow, there is still ice.
Has anyone seen the Bluestone catalog? Some really lovely hellebores are featured......I have 5, but I think I can find room for one more......
yes, it came last week. I am trying to figure out plant which bloom in partial shade. I wish more hellebores faced up, then I might buy some. I thought they had to be planted in the fall.
No, hellebores can be spring planted.....some blossoms do face outward, but usually there are so many blooms, you can see them anyway on the drooping ones. I think I'm ordering Rose Quartz.
Speaking of helle's, I planted 'Jacob' this fall and it's a winner. By now it's under a few feet of snow, but it was blooming for much of the past month. Lots of tendrils ready to run on it too.
i have rose quartz in a pot buried in the ground for spring planting with a few others
They are wonderful plants......I'm worrying about my camellia...the temp was down to zero a few nights ago, & although I have it wrapped up, I'm thinking it didn't survive........
Hoping that is not the case, dear
i think it's regular low temps and high winds and temperature and light changes that cause the problems. I'm hoping for the best for you too.
Had a long day outside trying to plant bulbs. I was restrained and ordered the smallest number since I started keeping records, 3506 bulbs. Ground was still frozen pretty solid in spots, but I would say we got close to half planted. Unfortunately, I am leaving for the weekend on the early Ferry tomorrow so finishing will have to wait until next week or later as we have a holiday to celebrate. May all of yours be Merry and Bright. And Robindog, I hope your Camellia survived the very cold weather. Patti
Thanks for the holiday wishes and the same to all!
Tree looks like it has a lovely spot.
Thanks, Patti....yes, tree is a beauty! Glad you were able to plant some of the bulbs......
Lovely tree, Patti! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Marilyn, I hope your camellia survives! The early low temps have put so many plants at risk, including those in our new CT condo harden. Just keeping my fingers crossed for us both, and for everyone else who has plants at risk!
November & December have been roller coaster rides with the temps.....it hit a low of zero last week, & today will be in the 60s, followed by 5 degrees on Christmas Eve, back into the 40s for next weekend! The plants are really confused, I'm sure.......me, too! I could get used to these 60s until April!
up to 39° here. It should be one of our mild days, then winter returns.
Spent the day entertaining family, tiring but fun.
Yay for family!!! Am now in Atlanta waiting for Jeff to arrive this afternoon. They had 4" of rain yesterday. Glad I didn't run into it til about an hour from BIL's home.
That's a lot of rain, Jan, in a short time! Hope they needed it.......rain here today, temp of 50......love it!
Jeff is here!!!! Yay!!!!!
Will have to ask what their water situation is like. There IS water in the lake. So,that is a good thing. Sometimes it is W A Y down.
I think they have had a rainy fall........
Wishing all my DG friends a Merry Christmas!!!
Merry Christmas to the gang.
Yes, merry Christmas, Everyone! We have had a nice quiet, lovely day here...with a fire in the fireplace and lots of calls from the kids and just all good things and lots of awareness of the true meaning of the day. Blessings to you all!
merry christmas to all!
I hope everyone had the kind of Christmas Day they wished for....I did. Breakfast was at the farm with my son & his family & my stepdaughter & her DH......Dinner was at the Mayflower Inn with 17 of us there...weather was sunny & cold, with a gorgeous sunset on the way home.....
Sounds like great Christmas times. Not all ideal here as three kids start to realize some of the more difficult things about growing up and finding their niche.
Hope everyone had a nice day - quiet one here with a nice dinner with the in-laws
very fine snow not sticking to the ground. Just got a delivery of heating oil.
My new windows are cutting down on the oil usage....hopefully, I can replace a few more in the summer....does anyone know how to start a new thread? This one is getting long......
