Coffee break #98
Glad to have you another year, Bill, & good to hear from you, Patti, & you, Jen....we need to get Victor back with us. Allison said he's doing OK.
2nd the motion
Church bazaar is tomorrow.....made apple & cran apple jelly, pink peppermint & vanilla marshmallows, have to bake banana choco chip muffins & apple bread tomorrow......I'm in charge of the luncheon on Saturday.....making 2 soups, sandwiches & desserts......tiring, but the money goes back to the town through social services.......so many needy folks here.......
Hope that you have a good, useful day.
Yay, wha!!!
RD, you have been busy!! It all sounds yummy.
Getting ready for two sons' families next week. Also a former student is coming next weekend to speak at an event. An amazing young woman. I think I mentioned her before. Authored a book chronicling her experiences battling breast cancer at the age of 27. She also has befriended a Somali family of 5 daughters who were trying to navigate life in the US after having their father abandon them and their mother.
Jeff is teaching Luke how to play Monopoly. Hehehe

While surfing the links in todays article, I came to this site. Since I don't have time to digest the professional articles, it is nice to find an academic person who wants to debunk garden myths.
Hi Jan, you must be staying busy as well! My back is still bothering me today after running the kitchen for 6 hours yesterday, but it was fun...I think!
Take care of yourself.
Thanks, Lucy, am feeling back to normal right now....Florida sun would help even more!
Spent a lot of time in the kitchen today. Tomorrow also. Oh and Thursday and Friday. House full coming. Even have to use a neighbor's house. Then.....on Monday I'm headed to sunny Florida. Will be going on a cruise as a companion to a dear friend. Hoping to see Louise and Hank when we get back as well as a cousin. I should be back home just in time for Christmas.
Hope your feeling okay Marilyn, I know how bad backs can be.
Jan sounds like your busy and sunny Florida will be a great break...enjoy!!
Oh, I WILL!!
No cooking here as I will be celebrating up at the farm....Jan, that trip to FL sounds wonderful....
youngest DD is visiting & we will pick up her daughter at school today. We are going along to see the campus. Her brother was dropped off overnight, but I don't think that he will bother going to class with her.
Have a good time with them, Iris.....
Whoops we forgot the gravy for tomorrow. DD went out to retrieve. What a disaster if not here. We could do the bit with flour & water, but I think it works much better with beef.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Happiest of Thanksgivings everyone!!! Things are smelling pretty good here and you know my nose doesn't work well, soooo, it will be yummy!
Same to you Jan and all my Northeast friends. May each of you have a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving today and everyday!
DH and chef son and I are cooking away as if we had a dozen coming to dinner tonight. Actually just the three of us. In the oven currently is a regular pumpkin pie as well as a pumpkin cheese cake with a candied ginger and ginger snap streusel topping plus DH is finish making a cranberry almond tart that I saw recently on a garden blog. It looked too pretty to not make. Plus DH made a key lime pie yesterday which we only ate half of so far.

But the star will be the heritage turkey and all the veggies. We aren't eating until at least 7 as we had a long day driving from Vt down to Stamford to fetch our son at 4:00 who caught a train out of NYC around 3:00 He said Grand central was sheer madness. However the traffic and weather wasn't too bad in either direction for us. We hit Fairway Market, our favorite grocery store in this country, to do some more shopping before we left Stamford. We finally got home at 9:00 and ate a late dinner but then stayed up to catch up with DS until an uncivilized hour.
But I do envy some of you who are having a big family or extended family and friends gathering. So Gobble Gobble and get ready to undo those belts and take to the floor if you haven't already. My very best to all of you enjoying our annual celebration of the harvest and good will. Patti
Youngest daughter & family are here from Minnesota. Rather nice because there are usually only 2 of us. 'Axis & Allies' game in process on the dinning room table. Too complicated for me.
Popping in hoping you have all been having a very nice and meaningful Thanksgiving! We started the day without power until noon. Transformer across the street behind the homes crashed. I felt bad for many of our neighbors who were having large groups for dinner. We had plenty of time because it was just us. We just wanted a quiet day, and it was very nice. Still had the full traditional dinner, so we will have leftovers for days! Yay....no need to cook!
I'm going to physical therapy twice a week for ruptured ligaments in my foot. No gardening or walking allowed yet. Otherwise we're all fine down here! Hope you are all well!
Louise, so sorry to hear about your damaged foot. Power outage on T-day could be a total disaster of people eating early. My Mom was hosting 7 for dinner, but she was not cooking and was having them all over at noon so they could stuff themselves before settling down to the football games.
We just finished desert. And yes my belt is unbuckled. The turkey would not fit in the refrig so it had to go to the barn to a room that doesn't freeze but will be in the 30's. Got to get creative.
I just sent in a Brent and Becky order for 50% off which will be the last bulb order for 2013. They had some nice selections still left and I know we will have some days in Dec when the ground isn't frozen. Always an optimist. Patti

Hope all had a happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for posting your news as you are in my thoughts. We had our two most local kids and introduced two good friends' families over Thanksgiving dinner. All the work to serve 12 people worked out well and now two of my best friends know each other. Next year i expect to just be bringing the pies. Our chocolate fountain was successful with all the kids.
There were 20 of us for dinner at the farm, 26 for dessert......I ate too much! Someone had brought a baklava cheesecake.....my brother tried it & said it was delicious.....but at that point, I couldn't look at dessert! Then I visited with my stepdaughter & her cousins, they had a caramel apple pie for me to try, but I still couldn't eat.....Louise, take good care of that foot, Patti, I'm already hoping to see photos of your bulbs in the spring......
went to my sister in laws yesterday for dinner
Nice to hear what you all were doing yesterday. Sounds like everyone had an enjoyable day. It is just beautiful here today.....sunny, breezy and 73 degrees. We are being slugs just sitting out on our front porch, reading and watching the boats out on the choppy waters. Hope everyone else can get some rest as well today. 😘
ate too much as it sounds most did - had a nice day and great meal with plenty of leftovers - second dinner is tonight!
Had an apple for breakfast. that was all I could face. DD3 did the cooking & we are trying things for leftovers tonight & tomorrow.
Ha, irisMa, I had a tad more than an apple for my son's brunch creation today that he called, The Pilgrim Turkey Benedict Cumberbatch. Mashed potato waffles, sausage and bacon stuffing, turkey, cranberry, poached egg, and turkey gravy. Then I had to eat some more of the almond cranberry tart. We are about to eat some more. Oh My.....Patti
That was a hearty start to the day......the cranberry tart is too pretty to eat...well, I guess I could manage one bite!
Robindog, my portion of the Turkey Benedict was way smaller than the on in the Photo. The tart is very rich, so I have been eating only a sliver at a time. My son decided that we had too much pumpkin cheese cake so he made for himself a Pumpkin Cheese Cake Eggnog Milkshake with Vanilla Haagen-dazs which was way too rich for me to even try. I am now going down to clean up the basement to do penance for my over indulgence. Patti
Too funny about the Turkey Benedict Cumerbatch. As I read this, DD2 is watching the final episode on Netflicks.
It was a good idea when we made a spiral ham in addition to the turkey. Plenty of leftovers to send home with guests and still for us to keep eating.
Love the idea of Bach and red sneakers! Classic shot of the melding of the ages. Eighteenth century meets the Twenty First century. Looks like a perfect gathering. Patti
those pictures look good enough to eat patti!
I said my DS was playing The Prelude to Bach Friday (groan)
Pics of food mean I'm making another trip to the fridge...
Lovely seeing and hearing about everyone's festivities. It was fun here.
Getting ready to start the trek south tomorrow. Hoping to be in FL on Thursday. Louise, I'll dmail you to see if we can meet up. Fingers crossed.
