Status Update on Upcoming Changes

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1326509/

The tech team is currently working on another update that should fix the problem with the left-hand column bleeding over into the text area. It also increases the default font size to 13 point, which should reduce or completely alleviate the need to zoom in for many of us. I've tested it this morning and found a few things that I've sent over to them to investigate. When I have an ETA, I will let you know.

The other issues we are working on will include restoring the RID/photo column in your own view of your journal and tags. Those may not be in the next release, but they are on our proverbial radar screen, along with various other tweaks.

Please use this thread only to report any NEW technical problems.. In the meantime, if you come across any other threads where the date/time and/or location text is bleeding over, please know that should be fixed with the next release; there is no need to report it.

AND A SUGGESTION, when everything is fixed, could you please post a banner or a sticky or SOMETHING to notify us it is done amd we may go about our business ?

I would preciate it. BB

ps foto I am posting is not meant to offend Terry or anyone, but it just seems to fit the situation.

Terry, this isn't actually a problem or glitch, but I was wondering if some of the current DG FAQ stickies will be updated to reflect the changes once everything is completed?

We will update any FAQs that need to be, but I'm not sure which stickies you're referring to - can you give me an example?

One thing I should make clear is this: There is no need to manually format your sentences and stop typing midway across the text area. If you have your browser set fairly large, you may need to scroll left-right to read, but the text should not be cut off.. If you find a thread where the text IS cut off on the right (and you can't scroll to see it), please let me know.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks.
I'll have to go back through and take a look, but some examples I was thinking about are "How to set up a Journal" and info about "Tags" as well as occasional stickies I've run into with out-of-date links that no longer work.

The out-of-date stickies probably aren't important right now. You guys have enough to deal with. I'll try to make a note of any I run into.

It looked like the forum group trade chat thread has been corrected for text bleeding from left column into right. Here's another. Are the fixes going thread by thread? Rather tedious and thankless work. But thanks.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

The threads are not being fixed one-by-one. Once the wrapping issues are corrected, all affected threads are automatically fixed. In the link you gave me, I don't see any text cut-off on the right. Which post are you seeing problems with?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

not on the right...the avatar column on the left. Some have long dates bleeding over into the text box. scroll down and view a post with a september date...

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Gotcha and those are one of the issues that the next release will fix.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

On the parking lot, the zone info runs over. Coffee and......

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks - there's no need to report those any more. We will clear them up in one fell swoop once we roll in the next update. I'll announce an ETA on it as soon as I have one.

Terry

I was told to come here because I cannot upload pictures to Daves. I never had any problems before but now I can't do it. I am able to upload to facebook and my family tree program but not here. Before I spend money to take it to an expert would like to know if you have any advice for me. I am not a dummy on computers but no expert either. Could you help me with this. I have been with Dave's Garden now for about 12 years now and reallly enjoy it. I can't get on as offen as I would like but do like it very much.

Sami

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Sami, are you trying to upload via a computer, a smart phone, or an iPad/tablet?

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Yesterday I carefully uploaded 5 pictures one by one in a particular order, giving a description of each in that order after all 5 were uploaded. After posting they were re-arranged, so the descriptions were no longer correct. I use an iPad mini, but I think that has nothing to do with it?

Thanks, Pam

East Prairie, MO(Zone 7a)

Terry I am uploading from my laptop like I always did before

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Sami, what browser are you using, and exactly what happens when you try to upload a picture?

Do you see the link to choose a file?
If so, what happens when you click on that link? Can you select a photo to upload?
If you can, what happens next?

East Prairie, MO(Zone 7a)

I am using internet explorer. I choose a file from my documents and it shows that it is trying to upload but never loads. I have waited as long as 20 minutes but it never happens so I just hit cancel

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

How large is the file you're trying to upload?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Sami and Terry, that has happened to me before and I could come back say. an hour later and upload the picture just fine. This had happened before the changes begun and after. Never knew what caused it.

East Prairie, MO(Zone 7a)

Terry
I sent my picture to roadrunner and she was able to upload the picture for me with no problems. I am going to an expert tomorrow and see if he can tell me what to do. Roadrunner uploaded the picture to greenhouse forum my subject was recycling swing set. So the file must not been too large must be from my end here. Thanks for trying to help me.

steadycam3 I have been trying to upload for a month now and have come back many times to upload. will get back to you and let you know what they find out.

Terry, today's article (reprint of Catigny Gardens, Saturday 8-10-2013), spills way over to the right, at all resolutions. This definitely affects how we write or use photos, and how the reprints show up.

OTOH, one of my favorite online news sources, I now realize, is a fixed width format. The photos appear vertical on my cell phone and horizontal on the laptop. I just never had a word for the difference before.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Also, the title of the article is STILL misspelled.

East Prairie, MO(Zone 7a)

Finally got my computer fixed. I don't know what he did but I am now able to upload again.

Sami

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Summer, does it fall off to the right side for you too?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I use a laptop and the Cantigny article works fine on here. No falling off to the right. I use IE and windows 7 and all settings are default.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hmmmph. I still don't really understand. I use FF and win7 and I forget how to tell if my settings are default or not, but I do fool around with the resolution/magnification quite a bit with ctrl + and ctrl -.

edited to replace "sued" with "use!"

Sami, I wish you had asked the guy what he did, it might have been something simple you could have done yourself next time, in case it happened again!

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Carrie: nope. But I've had very few issues that other folkz are reporting. The time/location running over, yes, but that's hardly noticeable, really.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hmmmph. That's strange. Lucky you!

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Have you tried clearing your cache? When I did mine it straightened out a whole slew of problems. I have FF too. with Windows live.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I'll try again.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I think it makes sense to clear the cache most times if DG changes something. Otherwise, I understand your computer will just down load whatever the last version was. That may be true only for the home page but I dont know.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Clearing the cache doesn't change anything. Pooey.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I dont know if it helps but Im set on DG preferences at 12 and my browser viewer is set at 100%

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

marty, have you looked at the catigny gardens article from saturday? even on my phone, the pictures are chopped off on the right near the end of the article.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Carrie, the article issues should also be fixed with this next release.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

yes, I read the Catigny. No it was not cut off.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi,

Mostly everything is working fairly well for me, but, of late, I've seen a few addresses that bleed into the message window. Most are short enough, but is there any way to make the address wrap rather than bleed through? I'm posting an image. It's a bit better on my older computer than on my newer one, but I don't have a way of saving the image on the newer computer; so this is from the older one.

ViolaAnn, yes - the left-hand column "bleeding" over into the text area is one of the fixes that will be rolled out with the new update.
