We planted a young dogwood, about 6 feet tall earlier in the spring. We thought we had it with enough shade, but apparently not as it is now having more than just heat stress. Can we move it again or should we just leave it and try and give it more shade? I really don't want to lose it.
We are in Texas, zone 8. Thanks!
moving a young dogwood
I would shade it for another couple of months, then move it has the best chance of getting established. Do not move it in the summer heat.
Possibility #1: Does it snow where you are? Transplant it in late winter while it is still dormant, but the weather is getting ready to change, and get a bit warmer.
Possibility #2: No snow, rarely freezes: Transplant any time through the dormant season, though late winter is probably the best time.
Possibility #3: Evergreen type: Transplant in the mild fall or late winter when it will have at least a couple of months of mild weather before either frost or heat will be a problem.
Thank you! We never get snow, and rarely freeze.
Thanks again!
