Insect boring into fruit

I live in zone 5b (Ohio) and have an insect boring into my tomatoes and cukes. When I cut into the fruit it is spoiled by I don't see any remains of the insect. Who is the culprit and what is the remedy?

Ken,

There are a number of pests that can leave this type of hole. With your location in OH i would guess it is from the tomato fruit worm aka corn earworm. Can treat with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). Thuricide is a trade name.

One worm can infect several fruit which is why you didnt likely see him inside.
