I have 2 potential spots for a vegetable garden -- both get a good bit of sun, but at slightly different times of the day. One spot gets full sun starting early in the morning and until about 1PM. The second spot gets full sun starting around noon and through the end of the day.
I'm thinking the second spot gets more sun, but wonder if that nice morning sun is better for the plants overall?
Thoughts?? Thanks!!
Best location for vegetable garden?
I would go for the early morning till 1:00 location, I think that will provide plenty of sun and not so harsh, plus picture taking will be do much better.
I concur.
My yard does the same thing. Southeast side gets early morning til 1pm sun. Northwest side gets full on, burning sun from 1pm until around 6pm...
In the late spring-summer, I only put the extreme heat lovers on the Northwest side (tomatoes, eggplants, okras)
In the fall/winter, I put the broccoli and cauliflowers over there. The sun patterns change and there's bright light, but cool/cold air on that end. More diffused bright light on the Southeast side in the fall/winter. I put the shade-tolerant cole crops there: cabbages, beets, turnips, carrots, lettuce...
Hugs!
Like gymgirl said it partly depends what you are growing. If I were you and were open to doing two separate gardens I'd put tomatoes, eggplant, okra, peppers & zucchini in the afternoon-sun one, and lettuce, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers etc. in the morning-sun one. If you want just one garden location and you find your favorite-veggies list skews more heavily toward one of these lists than the other, that could affect your choice.
