I have an old plum tree that only has a few years left. I see disease settling in. Nearby there seems to be several large new growths either from the roots? or seeded somehow? Basically my question is: Can I dig up one of those new growths (now 5' tall with many branches shooting off of them) and trim it to start a new plum tree? A neighbour told me that plums do not grow off what are considered to be 'suckers'.. But not sure if these would be considered suckers as they are not attached to the main tree. We just bought this home so have no idea about fruit trees. Thanks for your time!
