hand pollination

canaan, NY(Zone 5a)

Im beginning to worry that bees will not he present to help my zuchinni, squash, and pumpkins so i want to hand pollinate. I watched a video and i can now identify the male and female flowers and how to use a cue tip on them. Some female squash flowers have big yellow ovarys im wondering if they have already been succuessfully pollinated by bugs?

My main question is what time will the female flowers be opened? I never saw any open so far im usually sleeping or not home lol.

I heard they only open once and never open again? Or can i pry the females open myself?

One of the Dave Garden members suggested leaving the male flower inside the female flower once you have hand pollinated so you will know which ones you have done.

Most important note: pollinate as early in the day as possible, when the pollen is dry - i.e. not immediately after rain or watering them.
