Instead of making 2 separate threads I thought I would just put my three questions into one.
First question: My moonvine that you all helped me bring back from the brink of death is ENORMOUS. I bought the biggest pole I could find for it(a five footer) and it's grown about 2 inches above it looking for someplace to go. The problem is I have no where for the vine to go. It's out in the condo garden(in a 16 inch pot) because my back porch only get about 3-4 hours of sun a day(in a good spot). Will it adapt to the size of the pole or do I need to find some place for it to attach and continue to grow. I would LOVE to bring it back to my porch and have it just take over my fence, but fear the lack of sun will stop it from growing and eventually blooming(it's got 2 buds on it now). Since it is so big and thriving would it adapt ok to bring it in and let it crawl along my fence line? Or does it need to continue getting the all day sun to succeed? here are some pics
Second question:I'm growing Cosmos again this year, and this time last year they were huge, lush and blooming. This year, while tall, the green leaves are thin and not thick and lush and I've had 2 premature blooms(small, dry and dead). The only thing different I've done with these is I didn't start them in peat pellets...I went straight into some miracle gro potting soil(I'm having the same problem with my 4'oclocks, this time last year they were 3 feet high and starting to bloom...this year they are about a foot tall. Only difference is I didn't use peat pellets) I'm also getting, what I can only describe as "ingrown stalks" on my thickest cosmo stalks(see pic) where the growth has stopped and they are almost growing into itself like an ingrown toenail. Do I clip the stalk and hope for regrowth? What can I do to bring back these babies to full lush. Everything seems to be so behind schedule this year and I don't understand why. I don't know if it's the weather(it getting hot a little later) or if I didn't start from peat.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, any advice would be greatly appreciated with getting my Four o'clocks back on track as well. I put a LOT of hard work into transforming our side garden to make it look nice and would really like to see the 4 o'clocks grow to full bloom.

Thanks again Kall.
P.S I'm curious about any types of flowers I can grow year round or get started to have in the fall/winter time inside my house where I get no sun through the windows. Is there any such flower or plant? If there is or anyone has any seeds I would be very interested. If this summer turns out to be 90% bust I'm going to have to grow something in the winter. This gardening bug has bit me two hard my second year.
Cosmos Stalks ingrowing,Moonvine getting too big
The vine would be happy going back down the pole, then back up again. If you snip off the tip, side shoots will form.
Do I need to coax the vine down? Lead it? Or will it find it's own way? I'll go snip it right now
Also thank you for taking time to read the thread. I guess I should edit it to make it shorter.
Vine- get 2 more poles, same size and place them in a triangle. Then gently aim the vine arched over and down, then up.... over and over again. You will end up with a dense column of leaves, and lots of flowers. I do not think it would do well indoors. You will have to tie it into place for it to grow down. Most plants want to grow up. When it gets to the bottom and has enough to turn back up you can tuck that lowest loop of the stem under the soil. It may root.
Indoor flowers:
Look into some house plants that flower: African Violets, Streptocarpus and related plants, Orchids and others. You may have to provide a grow light.
Thanks Diana. That's a good idea.
I never intended to bring the moonvine indoors, just into my garden which gets less sunlight.

Hey, just noticed you're in Orem UT. I used to sell Castle Rock stuff, a company in your town. Great souvenirs!
Agreed, without a little help, it won't go back down. You may be able to wind it and have it stay. Love the triangle 'tee pee' idea!'
Wax Begonias can be surprisingly satisfying inside. Had one bloom for a solid year before I planted it in the ground.

That's so crazy! i am actually from Carbon County Utah(Castle Country) originally.
I've placed three more stakes around the side(tho they are shorter but thee are other vines sprouting off towards them) but the vines don't want to wrap around them. They are completely ignoring them and just hanging out the side
If you wrap them around the new supports and tuck the tip somewhere, like behind the taller piece, so it can't unwind, they will 'harden' in that position, for lack of a better word. These vines are like kids, you have to keep an eye on them often to make sure they're doing right. They don't even go up CL fence right (according to my mental image) if I don't guide them.
I tried tying one in place and it just over powered itself and came undone over night. I'll have to try again. This thing is getting out of control. every morning I wake up to a new side vine and I only have three stakes and they are not all 6 feet tall. I only have the one 6 footer and three other 16 inchers. I brought it on my back patio to see how it will do in 4 hours of sunlight. I noticed this(see pic, couldn't get a better pic) about 2 weeks ago, I thought it was a flower bud,but it hasn't done anything, then two more grew right next to it. It can't be buds because Moonvine buds are long and twisted. These are short and fat. I wonder if it's not growing healthy enough(it doesn't really look the best though it is my first time, scattered leaves, really thick on the bottom) But if I can get jus a few blooms I'll be very happy.
I think those "buds" are ingrown leaves. There are tiny leaves coming off the side. I think a couple of those huge heart shaped leaves just grew to full size without ever opening. It's quite strange.
Oops, I think they were buds and I cut them off. Dang. Anyway, I'm getting the other vines to wrap around the poles quite nicely and every other vine that grows out I'm just grabbing objects around my shed for it to grow around. It's actually quite a sight.
Now if I could just fix this problem with my Cosmos. I may have too many in one long rectangular planter and will have to get rid of some of them.
I also want to thank you Diana, my Zinnias are back in full force and are massive. One has a huge bud on it and is about to bloom.
