Can I add (plant food)if I am using a 3 month fertilizer (premix) soil.I know seems pretty obvious I should probably wait almost 3months but the plants will already be producing fruit.do I even need (plant food)? Appreciate your help
if i have a premix fertilizes 3 months can i add some plant
I don't like adding any more feeds to composts / soils already dosed with additives for the very reason you question is posed. It causes complications, it can add to doubts re problems showing up months later and some people think the plants require more feeding but reality could be, the plants have some disease, or bugs ect, therefore I much prefer to use ordinary compost that has no additives at all, when I use it, depending on what I am about to use it for, I make my own mixture by adding bone meal / fish / blood as this is a slow release fertiliser and is not chemically enhanced so can be used for food plants, shrubs, flowers and even pot plants, other additives I might use would be home made compost as I have 2 large buns, horse manure (well rotted)that I swear by or chicken pelleted manure BUT when your using any feeds that have been manufactured, even ones that are NON chemical, you need to really read the directions for dosage, how often to apply / re-apply and make sure you dont over feed, that can be the death of more plants than NOT feeding at all.
If I were you I would read the packet of the mix you have used, if this is lost, go to store and read the packet there re how long you need to wait till you apply more feeding, maybe someone else can advise re this type of mix you have used and I'm holding my hands up here when I say it's hard to gauge as it all depends what your growing, in outdoor soil or in a pot, how often the soil is watered as this will maybe help leach the additives out from the mixture.
I would certainly err on the right side an NOT feed till you see signs of the plants needing fed, that way you will have time left to add feeds but too much feed too soon after a dose, can burn roots cause the plant to shut down as like humans, can only have a certain amount of intake, before collapsing.
Hope this gives you some ideas and lets here for others who perhaps use the type of mix you have.
Good luck, WeeNel.
