Roundup absorption time?

New York, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm preparing a bed/area to be mulched. I manually hand weeded the weeds that appeared to be flowering or at seed stage. Was going to use round up on the rest of the weeds, wait at least 24 hours, then cut them low to be covered with newspaper and mulch. But, I'm concerned that the round up might not be effective yet at the roots and wasting my time.

-What is the rate the round up gets absorbed into the plants system and then to the roots where it supposed to act? (the label has info on being rain ready in 2 hrs. and being able to plant in the area 24 hrs after spraying)
- I know some cut weeds 1st and break the stems before round up. Is this a good idea, or is leaf absorbing better?

Overall,
-If the round up continues to work down the stem stubs, I would cut low, round up, wait at least 2 hrs, and then mulch over?

According to Round-up's site it takes between 30 minutes and 6 hours to enter the weed sprayed. This link is to their Q&A site.

Thanks,
This is working out as roundup, waiting 2 days, then mulching over (with a quick scan for any weeds that went to seed I missed)

You are most welcome. You do know the Roundup won't take care of seeds? We use a powder pre-emergent called Amaze....stops seeds from germinating.

Best of luck with your project.

I manually weeded everything that looked like it was flowering or at seed stage before the round up was sprayed. Just giving a final check before the newspaper and mulch covering.

Cool. The paper and mulch should curtail any stray seeds.
