Ha ha heat gettin to ya? Nice pics!
July blooms
oooo, I like it! I love that Coleus too!
Nice!
darling, Catbird!
Lovelypics.
How cool, that some of tour singles have morphed into doubles, coleup. Thank you for the Bon voyage. Flight was delayed over two hours, but we made it. I asked if there was room could we be moved to an exit row for more leg room. SCORE!!! Without having to pay extra. They also asked people to check a bag without paying. Woohoo!!
We were cleaning out beds around the pool. I almost faked losing my balance and falling in, but I waited til we were finished. There are lots of crape myrtles around town that are blooming their heads off. DS cut a bunch of logs into 4" thick 'coins' to make pathways. He'll sink them a bit to level them.
yay Jan.
Love the pathway concept.
Holly, we'll have to call you the lily lady!! wow... lots of beautiful blooms there
Really they are so beautiful and the smell in the yard is unbelievable.
That Eyeliner sure is a pretty one. Everything looks so nice. Just got done watering might go back out and get some pics.
SSG: what pretty flowers!
Sidenote: I feel like I need to confess to you all that I don't actually like daylilies. I can appreciate the beauty of them, but I think that I'm the only person on DG who doesn't have/want a million different varieties? I guess some would say they didn't really get my love of hostas.... Just sayin'.
Attaching a picture my mom took in a relative's garden.
Holy Moley!!!!!
Somehow--as of my Post on 7/4--this Thread got "unwatched".....How did that happen???
And--I been wondering why there are NO July blooms posted!
Had a lot of catching up to do--and [posting some of mine.
First--I just want to comment on some of the above entries. Will try to keep it short...
YEAH???? You think?
Karen--Cylburn Arboretum Market Day--I went once--the year after I gave away my monster
"Maya" brug (2009). Thee next year--they had a pile of beautiful plants of it grown from cuttings of mine.
Did you notice if they were still selling the Maya Brug rooted plants? In 2010--they sold them for $12.
Holly--Love your Bonfire begonia. Looks like one i saw in Latvia...Ahem--the one hanging in the
Star of Abraham (?) has religious overtones....;o) Are either of you Jewish? Looks good, though.
***Thanks for the photo of the false Indigo---Not sure I will see blooms this year. it is still just growing.
How long have you had yours? Looks like a while...
Wind--LOVE, LOVE the deep, deep blue of your Hydrangea!!! Is that a variety--or is it extreme
acid feeding that produces that?
Your "Inky Fingers" Caladium is growing huge! Love it! That WAS from you--right? Have pics...
I love caladiums and begonias too--such a variety--and such beautiful results.
Paul---Super Bummer on your Hibiscus!!! Kill those deer and have a few good meals!!!
Like--Hibiscus-flavored pot roast....YUM...with vengeance.
I am still not sure if the small-leafed Hosta I have IS or IS NOT Mouse ears...
We hashed through it when I bought it...there was NO consensus..
I got it in 2012 at HD. It has bloomed nicely this year. Have pics...later...
Greenthumb---How have you liked the S. African Foxglove so far?
Is it your 1st year growing it? You have the space! I just grew it that one year,
and then decided I cannot do it again. It grew 7'x6' in my tiniest bed I have...Did OK, though.
Looking at your Avatar--are you into Faeries or Gnomes? Like, Jen, she has a whole
Faerie garden...
Your NOID Coleus looks similar, maaybe not the same, as one of mine I got at the Swap.
I think it was called "Carnival"???
Coleup--I also have some "Mystery DL's in my garden. Like the ones that I call
my "Stump Lilies"--just b/c there is a stump where they are growing.
I SWEAR the first year they grew there (mostly on my back-neighbor's side) they were single
ho-hum Lilies. Then--they evolved into these gorgeous, multicolor orange/yellow Lilies!
Now I have 3 that are VERY similar growing in my long S. bed. Never seen any Lilies with stems
4'+ tall. But--the blooms look VERY similar to my Stump Lilies. Maybe I dug some up
and planted them there??? Sometimes, in desperation, I will stick anything in a space available..
My God! They are near the border--and 3 clumps, 4' tall???? Not sure what to do with these?
OK! Hope you keep some of my weird ID's in mind. Now--I will post some July pictures in a new Post...
Gita
Love those lilies!! So pretty!
Here are some pics from last weekend:
1. The first 'egg' on the only surviving ornamental eggplant. Hope I get some seeds out of this plant this year.
2. Browallia speciosa from David this year.
3. Columbine - must be the last flowers of the season.
4. Brug 'Xena' - let me know if anybody wants cuttings this fall.
5. Brug 'Dr Seuss' - cuttings from Gita in October 2011.
OK! Some July Blooms...Apologies if any are duplicates of already posted ones...
1--A new DL blooming from amid my Phlox. Don't have a name...
2--My A/C bed (the unit is to the right) filling out nicely...
3--Apricot Ruffles fron Swap--from Lovesdaylilies
4--"Careless Love" Coleus--really growing fast!
5--This is one of my new Coleus too--from the Swap. davud--is this one
like yours? Someone said it was called "Carnival".......Not sure...
Continued..
1--Another DL from the Swap. This one is NWOM x KK. They are still in pots--
never got Aina to come anf get hers--and I had no room...Glad they are blooming...
2--DR. Seuss in the WS bed--loving his new quarters!
3--A beautiful, single plant of the "Dwarf red Coreopsis" I have seeds from.
I plant the seeds--thinking they will be Blue Angelonias--and they all come up Coreopsis...
Hmmm-me thinks my seeds are mis-ID'd!
4--My bed bu the front door filling out...That empty spot got filled yesterday!
5--My Heliopsis Daisy clump in the YUK bed...
Gita - Your coleus and ours may be the same. Does yours get much sun? Ours does and maybe that results in the yellow-green areas of yours appearing much greener in ours. At any rate, the 'Carnival' cultivar is much different that either of ours. The South African Foxglove I started last year from seed from you. It barely survived til fall. I brought the small plant in for the winter and let it go semi-dormant. Moved it back outside in late spring and it is really taking off. Even if it turns into a big plant like yours I'll try overwintering it again.
More---I said i was catching up....;o)
1--Two plants of "Inky Fingers" Coleus over-growing the NG Imp. Will have lots of cuttings...
2--Two Begonias in my Lava Rock Planters (6" clay pots fit in there). Ric is jealous!!!
3--My KK Hibiscus in the front-lawn bed---ready to pop! Dig the foliage colors! Kopper King....
4--Orienpet DL--"Honeymoon"--have had it now for 5 years.
5--Same Lily bloom--closer. Hard to photograph--as they hang downward
Last 5--I hope.....
1--Phlox in my Kitchen-side bed.
2--The whole Kitchen side bed---love the mix of EVERYTHING! It is filling in so nicely!
has more plants amd flowers in it than i can shake a stick at. Mix and match--my gardening way...
3--Some of the new Red Phlox I gor--1-1free. They are not all that great any more--
the bloom is going, going gone...Hoping they all come back next year.
Two of them have, already, given up the ghost....so sorry!
4--The Tall-stemmed DL--that I think looks just like my Stump DL.
5--See how tall the stems are???? CEAZY!!!!
The end--as of now......will make sure this Thread stays "watched"...... Gita
Gita, Sign me up for one of your inky fingers cuttings!
The yard looks great. Looking forward to seeing it in "real life".
I love those little red coreopsis. They are adorable.
Is that cardinal flower in your a/c bed? I got one last year, it has only one stalk which is just now thinking about blooming. And curiously, it flopped down on the ground the other day and I had to stake it back up. Looks like yours has been blooming for a while.

Shocking as it may be ;) it's ok that you don't really like them, you'd need a really HUGE yard if addicted to all of them
shhhh don't tell Gita but I'm not crazy about Brugs *GASP* the only 2 other flowers I don't care for are Celosia and Eryngium
hm...Jill doesn't have Brugs either, I don't think.
Gita I ended up with a nice row of your Dwarf red Coreopsis, its pretty. My only seedlings to be blooming yet- Scabiosa still tiny.
Karen--IF you come Saturday--I will cut some Inky Fingers cuttings off for you.
I can also give you seeds for the Red Coreopsis or anything else....
I could dig a couple of them up--as they are growing in the wrong place (my W-Boxes),
as I thought they would be Angelonias....but--I am not sure how well they
would transplant as they are all in bloom already.
I KNOW you will come to the seed swap end of February next year! In Frederick.
We get together at Chef Lin's Chinese Buffet and go to town!
Jill organizes this one--5 years already.
Matter of fact--if you come--you can hang around and look through my WHOLE stash of seeds!
They are VERY Organized and easy to choose.
Maybe take a look at my "Trade List' (click on my name) before you come and see all
of them in living color. descriptions too...
NO ONE ever goes home empty-handed from my house!!! Ask anyone....
Paul once left with a whole, 10' tall shrub! He dug it up! Can't beat hat!.....;o)
OK! I better get to bed......Gita

Jen,
Thanks for the reassurance. I was starting to feel like the black sheep! ;)
But I do love those big huge celosia cristatas.
Pat (ecnalg) wanted something more than photos of single blossoms, so:
Phlox with Echinacea and soon to open lilies.
Semi-double Lavender Balloon Flowers showing the mass of petals a cluster of these flowers make.
Lilium 'Muscadet'
Lilium 'Tiger Woods' unbrowsed by deer due to protective fencing.
Lilium 'Stargazer'
Pat--
I am with you! Close-ups of blooms are lovely--but it does not show the setting they are in.
I am sure you have noticed that I do show whole beds now and then. Just pretty to
look how everything melds together--no --no color schemes...just beautiful!
Like my "Kitchen Side Bed" in the above post.
Gita
Thanks, Gita. Your kitchen bed is beautiful indeed. I enjoy seeing the setting along with the bloom.
Ric is so right about the lilies and their scent now. I can tell we have some in bloom before I get around to that side of the house simply by how lovely they smell.
Belated greetings to typwc. Glad to have another gardener on board, and not all that far away.
Greenthumb, Coleup, and Holly--California is such a beautiful state! We have a cross-country road trip on our list sometime in the next few years--so many beautiful sights to see.
I'm loving seeing everyone's photos. I need to take some soon myself--maybe tomorrow if the sun ever shines. I love the way my yard smells right now, too--plus all the butterflies!
We came home to discover *corn* growing in the back garden--dropped by the birds from the bird feeder--LOL!
Catmint
Nice to meet you too, Pat! :)
catmint---
Not too many birds eat corn kernels--cracked corn--maybe? But, that would not sprout.
Rather than birds dropping the corn that is now growing--I bet some squirrel gathered a
mouth-full and buried it in your garden. Not sure Chipmunks would do it either...
Squirrels bury everything! They THINK that 8 months from now--they will find it again. HA!
Corn has to be buried (planted) to sprout....
As far as taking photos--one gets the best photos in EVEN light--like overcast days.
Sun on flowers and plants always distorts the colors due to reflection.
I do not like taking photos on a sunny day because of this...
Just food for thought.........Gita
See how the sunlight distorts the colors of blooms...NOT a good picture...
typwc, I'm not a big fan of daylilies myself, but they do great in unamended clay. The daylilies I do have are freebies or from swaps. I do like that Frans Hals, though. It's almost 5 feet tall! I got it at my first swap with the MidAt group, so it reminds me of the wonderful people here.
I do love true lilies, though! I can't figure out the differences between Oriental and Asiatic and all the hybrids. I just saw this article, but I still can't tell them apart: http://allthingsplants.com/ideas/view/pardalinum/1355/Lilies-for-the-Garden/
Gita, we definitely have our share of squirrels around here so it could have been that! My daughter wants me to let the cornstalks grow but they look kind of funny next to my butterfly bush. :-)
Well, you all have inspired me to go out and get some photos this morning!!
Catmint
Catmint looking forward to some pics from you. I'm at the low end of photo quality here but for now my cell phone pics are all I have to show and tell! (If my world renown nature photographer friend ever visits again maybe I'll get him to do a series on my garden and dazzle everyone! lol)
Also, I bet your 'corn' is really millet! Plants really do resemble corn and it' s in almost all birdseed mixes. There are also ornamental versions in many garden centers. If you let your grow the seed heads will be eaten by birds and they will perch on the stems. The seedlings are fairly easy to identify and pull up come spring. And, your supply will be fresh!
http://cecottle.com/2011/11/01/mystery-millet-grows-in-janesville/
I love millet and also sorghum. I've been wanting to grow sorghum... maybe next season
And, really like the interesting color of the Frans Hals lilies
Here are a few photos taken this morning:
1- finally seeing a few more swallowtails
2- closer view of buddleia bicolor
3- this was supposedly Japanese MG w/white eye from seeds from a DG seed swap, the bloom looks just like heavenly blue, but the leaves do look like a Japanese MG. I was hoping for more of a picotee type bloom, but love any blue!!
4- first lisianthus bud! thank you RRR; still can't believe you were able to grow them from seed. A true labor of love and to share them no less
5- plain 'ol hosta blooms. most are tipped over from all the rain
Gita, your 4 o'clocks have buds and a first bloom too. they also tipped over from the rain. I need to prop them up later today. I forgot that they got tall enough to flop
