I was deadheading my Mountain Laurels, and I thought that maybe I should prune them instead. They all look like this one, a little leggy. What do you think? And if I should prune, how much?
Thanks.
Pruning my Mountain Laurels
They look just fine to me, they are healthy and have put on new growth, If anything, scrape away some top soil, and add a new mix of compost mixed with some leaf mould and a handful of feed, mix this all together and replacing the soil you removed.
Depending how long the tree has been in the same pot, it may be the year that you need to re-pot them into a larger pot, if you go down that road, then make a larger amount of new humus mixture and use this bottom and top of the new pot.
Re-looked at the pot they are in and I would go down the top dressing route.
Best Regards, WeeNel.
I don't know, our Mountain Laurel is a pretty shy grower and I think pruning it would stunt it. I think yours looks good the way it is anyway.
