I've spotted a small green grasshopper like bug on my cherry tomato plants. My fruit seems to still be ok, but the leaves seem to be withering. Does anyone know what this bug could be? They jump around like grasshoppers too. Thanks.
Green Bug
There is a bug called a leaf hopper. Maybe 1/4" long. Many are green, but there are also brown and multi-colored species. They suck the juices out of a plant. Unless there are a lot of them they do not do so much direct damage, as spread plant diseases that can kill the plant.

Many insects can carry diseases, and bugs that eat plants or pierce the leaf to suck the juices then fly or hop to the next plant are very good vectors of plant diseases.
Thanks for your help, is there anything I can do to get rid of them? I wouldn't like to use pesticides. Thanks. Will growing basil in the same pot help?
MonkeyFlower - some grasshoppers ARE green:

Encourage birds into your garden, they'll eat just about anything that moves!
So it could be an actual baby grasshopper then? Do they eat tomato leaves? I haven't been gardening very long - so much to learn!
