Frog delemma

Montesano, WA(Zone 8a)

I have frogs (and toads) in my greenhouses. At first I thought it was great due to their appetite for pests and slugs, but now I'm wondering...I found this little guy burrowed in one of my 4"pots where a new seedling used to be. I also see some bites out of some of my plants. Don't know if those are slug damage (which I have) or the toads. Do they eat plants as well as insects? I don't want to hurt them in any way but am a little worried. I thought about making a little habitat for them so they'll be happy and stay out of the pots...any thoughts or suggestions??

I think you have an innocent visitor there- the holes in the leaves are too small to have been made by him- fix him up a house and let him be happy- he is probably eating the bugs that made the holes!

I agree...I keep a few old cracked or broken clay pots on a tray under one of the benches with soil left in them....the toads think of it as their neighborhood. Toads eat plants as tadpoles, and will eat fruit and veggies when kept as pets, but wild toads eat slugs, grubs, insects, worms and other invertebrate and rarely ever plants.

Thanks so much JoParrot and moonhowl...I'm glad to hear cuz I have quite a few green frogs and these kinds of toads setting up house. I'll make them a comfy cozy place just for them and we'll all be happy!
