What do I spray my pear tree with?

Bridgewater, ME

I have two pear trees that are 5 years old, have never had a pear yet.Last year the leaves curled up,I want to know what I can spray them with to keep insects and other disease from them?I have sprayed my apple trees, cherry trees and plum trees but this spray did not mention pear trees so I didn`t dare spray it.And can you tell me how long it will be before I can expect fruit?

Contra Costa County, CA(Zone 9b)

Generally pears are close enough related to apples that until you research differently, treat pears like apples.
Basic spray program:
In winter, dormant spray. This kills overwintering insects that may hide in the bark or barely under the soil (yes, spray with enough spray that it drips on the ground pretty well). Bud break, and different stages of the flower opening are very important times. Some pests (codling moth and others) get into the fruit when it is so small you almost cannot see it. The tree is still in flower. The trick is to spray with something that is not toxic to honeybees.
The exact spray program needs to be worked out with your local conditions in mind. Ask at the department of agriculture or university extension offices.

If they have been growing well, I would expect to have seen a few fruits already. Do you know what variety they are? Are they the right variety for your area? Are they the right varieties to pollinate each other?
