Oh my goodness. I am first for once. I am going to pull more weeds and pick up limbs today. Wears me out but needs done. I have one daylily blooming and am ready for more pic taking. Hope to get some good ones this year. Hope to go on a trip with very good friend this year too. Am very happy right now. LOVE and prayers to all. BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Bev, warms my heart to hear you are doing ok..as always, love seeing your photo's!

A trip with friends how wonderful, do they have anywhere in mind? you couldn't talk them into a trip to Canada now could you?

don't overdo the weeding

today when I drop into the nursery I'm going to ask them what their thoughts are on the lily bug if they think it's left the region..so want to have a lily garden

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Bev, glad to hear your happy!

Yes, it is raining here Betty, just a soft nice rain.
Dad is doing pretty good. He gets mad if my Sister does take him for a ride every time she shows up for a visit. She goes to see him 3 or 4 times a week, and takes him for a ride on the week end, that is not good enough for him, he wants to go everyday!

Verona, ON

Morning everyone. It is STILL raining buckets here so expect some washouts on the lane. Weather Liars forecast rain for the next 2 days and my joints agree. At least the strong wind has calmed down. I did vacuum much to all the critters' consternation. I can;t get over how much these 3 are shedding this year.

Can't get to anything outside due to the rain and just don't feel like washing floors. I will no sooner get them done and Diesel will come in from outside. Then I am right back at where I started.

Beaver are having a hayday chomping down trees in s swampy area south of the house. Between the felled trees and all this rain the whole area is starting to look more like a pond.

Gee Debbie maybe falling down the stairs will give Shannon something to focus on other than her sure to be sore throat. Although I can't imagine how much sorer it could get than it has been these last few weeks. Glad Paul took the day off to be with you. Like your hair.

LK I was so glad to read that you have been out of pain for a few days.

Barb how are you feeling today?

Need some breakfast or maybe I will just call it lunch.

Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

They get set in their ways don't they! Glad he is holding his own.
Sun is trying hard to come out, wind is something else and it's 52 but feels much colder.. I will have to wear a jacket this afternoon when I go out.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, I hear ya on the floor situation, hard to keep floors clean when it is raining, and animals keep going in and out!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Maybe Dianne the sun will work it's way towards you although in the few minutes since I last posted its already gone behind the clouds..

Know what you mean with diesel in and out, I had to be contually washing the floors..kitties bring some in as well as some shedding but not bad at all.

Don't they say that beavers are overly busy when fall will be early??

Ohh Debbie, did I miss that Shannon fell downstairs?

Got a call re Ann this morning from June, Ann is totally exhausted! Melissa is doing ok as are the babies, was told she can only get up right now for washroom or make a tea, sandwich, nothing more...so today Ann is helping look for housing for Melissa and better half, she is hoping to be home Sunday/Monday for a few days. Was thinking if it ever stops raining I could ride my mower over and at least cut her grass and get the trimming done..we'll see

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

It is raining here as well and we are expecting the aftermath of Andrea tonight into tomorrow. Flood warnings are out already. Glad we are up on the hill!!!
Back and leg is doing better. Has been diagnosed as sciatica - not hamstring pull. I have been VERY careful with how I move and how long I sit as it stabs pain at the least little movement sometimes. It will pass - I just want to be doing things!!! LOL And I'm being good and eating a banana every morning to bring up my potassium level. It was low.
I taped a special on 'Les Mis" the other night so I'm off to watch it. Be good everyone.

Back home! Shannon was the only surgery doctor had, so we were first and last on his list.

He came out and talked to us, said her throat was a total mess. Tonsils were so full of "gunk" and
the left much worse than the right. He said sending off for biopsies and he is glad they are out.

Lots of medication while still at the surgical center, and came home with 3 scripts. They gave her one
in horse pills...which was supposed to be liquid...so DH is going to exchange that.

Shannon slept the entire way home, and is sleeping on the couch with Nurse Franky cuddled up and on duty.

Betty, yes she fell down the stairs at the movies last night ...ankle is quite purple.

I need to get some lunch and will be back later.....
Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, glad you are home, deep breaths, sit and have something to eat and put your feet up..am glad that Shannon got through it and this might be exactly what was needed, tonsils were likely poisoning her!

Gee that girl can't get a break..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear your home! Horse pills? How is she supposed to swallow those after surgery?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bev, went to garden gallery, wouldn't you know they had Lillie's n sale, asked about the bug, was told forget planting Lillie's forever in same soil..can't use chemicals and so there they lay..I asked if I put them in a diggerent garden was told no so back on the shelf they went, bought a dapple willow instead.

Drats, drats and more drats..want to use bad words but not allowed to..I KNOW it's a no no to set my glasses on top of my head but do I listen, nope..lost them, found them, I had run them over with rider, weekly garbage they shall go..ask me if I'm happy with myself?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

How many pair have tou lost Betty? You need a strap for them!

Victoria Harbour, ON

found a few flowers in the garden
lilac tree is a late bloomer, more lacy than the earlier lilacs

Just checking in...

Bev - so glad you are happy... first time I've seen you post such and that's great (HUGS)

Betty - it amazes me how lush and beautiful your gardens are and in such a short time.... I guess those Canadian plants know they better get a move on ....

Some of mine still not recovered from winter it seems......

Hugs
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Thanks Lindakay, guess they must stay where they are then..great link
I've a garden in front of my front deck that has just gone wild, 8' butterfly bushes and a few other what I thought were shrubs that have just gone wild that have to be taken out, almost tempted to do so now and suffer the loss.

54 here, calling for a dreary day YUK,

our Walmart doesn't open until 7am then I'll be off to reading glasses, if weather is lusy at least I will be able to sew.

Last night I was in a deep sleep and heard walking in the house, woke up startled, was Noah, forgot he was coming home after movies with his dad..then Suzanne and Lenny dropped in for a bit, they had been to movies as well and sat with Greg/Noah. Guess I forgot to close screen door on back deck, this morning I found a gift, some large animal must have visited, didn't feel welcome and left me a pile of with a not so nice smell...ugggg. Not sure what knifed of animal it can be.

Better wake Noah, he works today

Victoria Harbour, ON

Back, yikes $25.99 for cheater glasses at pharmacy in Walmart..oh well

Coffee and donuts from Timmies, glasses, gloomy day and I'm ready to sew

Joyce, you rubbed off on me, stopped at construction area and picked rocks lol

Debbie, hope it's ok, I'm in a Red/White/Blue swap and a Something Old, Something new, Something Borrowed and Something Blue..provided them with your address. Hopefully over next 2 months we will get to meet up for lunch?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hard getting into sewing when one wants to cuddle right in with the furries...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh Betty, that was nice of them to leave you that stinky present! YUCK!

Victoria Harbour, ON

yes, I'd just like to know what kind of animal..maybe a bear?

well my Greg just came in, went right to his friend who was having open house today, she said wasn't in business today, social and b.b.q.
but because Greg is always doing things he and she worked on them and he just delivered them..omg they look like new

so the moral of this story is twofold

nice to have a concerned son, he thought I didn't have glasses to wear

nice to have a son who does favors for others and can collect easily, no charge because both he and Michelle did the repair, that's even better.

oh happy days, guess it helps that he's enjoying his new 'spider' toy and will travel anywhere lol
now I will wear these walmart glasses and keep the good ones in my purse

do need new ones though so will get my eyes checked this week and order glasses from Michelle..Greg didn't leave her telephone

Great news about getting your glasses repaired. I was horrible with glasses when I was younger but age has definitely made me more careful...that and I wear them all the time. Sunglasses are another story!!! :-) Always losing them!

The sun is out but I am afraid it is going to be really humid today.....hope not but..

All these pictures of plans makes me so envious...especially the hostas. I am trying to do a bed of hosta but it is slow going. Some will grow just fine but other......like Sun and Substance. It says it will take sun but I have had no luck with it at all. Not real happy about the weather on Thursday......the rain caused some dead limbs to come down right in the middle of my carpet roses. Crushed them but I think they will survive. Of course, it is better the roses than me when I am out working in that area.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi Marion. The info on Sum and Substance is a bit misleading....if you lived up North, It could handle full sun, but down here, morning sun or good strong dappled all day sun seem to be best for it. I have burned up a couple before I figured that out. Glad the branch got the roses and not you...8-)

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks Jean. I was beginning to consider that might be the case. I might buy one more and give it another try to see if I can go one. I had read in one of Felder Rushing's books that any plant, especially in FL, needs some relief from our sun in the afternoons. Had the pleasure of meeting him several years back when he was a guest at one of the garden festival I worked with for so long. One funny, strange man but so creative.

I am happy to about the limb Jean as it was rather large in size. Ah nature was cleaning out the debris once again.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You are most welcome. We are so much closer to the equator which makes our full sun much more intense. I thought you might like to look at this link....I loved the comment...."If orange trees grow in your area, hostas will not do well there"....and OVER statement to say the least....grin

http://www.hostasdirect.com/hosta-info/growing-zones

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

OMG Jean, I am in serious trouble now!!! Thank you dear friend......love the mini coral bells!!!!!! Have you ordered from them? I so want to order some to try in my dish gardens.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You are most welcome. I have a few hostas...I don't think anyone told them they can'/don't do well here in zone 9a GRIN I planted Heucheras once a few years ago....back when I thought full sun meant full sun....(tapping foot angrily) They burned slap up....I may have to try them again since all the hybridizing that makes them a bit more heat tolerant...and now that I know morning sun/dappled light is the equivalent of northern full sun.....sheesh. GRIN

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I have several Heucheras and they seem to be doing well. I had mixed feeling when I was say these plants but over time have fallen in love with them.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh you girls....don't try to make us feel sorry for you when you're basking outside in JANUARY!!!!! We have to have some trade offs! ^_^

Okay, a few more pictures, then I absolutely HAVE to get out and weed. The poison ivy and ash tree seedlings are killing me!

Betty, I've divided hostas at all times of year. Just need to make sure they have plenty of water after you do it.

1. Onethera, Pink Evening Primrose....it's outta here! It has already eaten a foxglove, iris and hydrangea. I'm going to pull along the pathway today and after Wednesday, it's ALL outta here!

2. Middle Garden

3. Dianthus (Pinks) This only blooms once a year...it has started to eat the path, so since the bloom is over now, it's a goner, too!

4. Part sun bed along driveway to the barn. Have some cool stuff in here. A tri-color beech, a huge acanthus (bear's britches), some nandina, my mimosa tree and my most beautiful japanese maple out of 14. Veridis

5. Kathy, her friend Sharon and me at one of the two tours we were on last weekend. Have another one tomorrow!

Okay, I've got to get to work!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waving 'hi' Joyce, glorious gardens, always in awe of them! Do you never stay home? I've decided after looking at your gardens I need to make my gardens a tod more sparce.. Must go back and look for your new baby..did you hide her?
Have fun tomorrow

I have hosta's in sun and shade, both seem to do equally well but then I don't have sun/heat you all have.

Have a few few Heucheras, think a few are in bloom, never particularly gave them much thought but I've seen all the charities in the nursery and are they nice.

Well Joyce, you've given me the push I needed, finished the swap projects I was working on and before day is over I will go out and at least get something done outside because if I don't and it rains tomorrow I'll have accomplished nothing

See you in a bit

Lyndonville, NY

Your kitty statue is SO lifelike! (ducking and running) BUT what beautiful gardens!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL...yes, and there are 6 lifelike ones!!!

Here she is Betty!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

You can see the cute little fairy sitting on the flower that I got in Midland, too!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ahh there is the little one, she sure looks as though she has made herself at home..

ok, you've done it Joyce, once garden sure got chopped, if it doesn't rain tomorrow I will finish it and pick up some mulch..

I swear, the hosta's have to be 2-3 ft high..it's like a jungle right now

made a set of mushrooms (using funny shaped stems as I dug holes in the sand to make them), more stems, a hypertufa container, trying to clean up my mess under gazebo and now I am tired, hot bath and something other than a jam sandwich is needed
