Best/Worse/What did You learn today! Chat with friends
First up this morning!!! I can't remember ever being the first to post Betty.
Kind of laid up this week. Somehow I have managed to irritate the hamstring muscle in my left thigh. I can't get comfortable in any position. It aches standing, sitting and laying down. Has anyone ever had this and what do I do about it? I'll call the doc later today but I figured you all here will be more helpful!!!! Only reason I am up sitting is to do my breathing treatments. Then it's back to the bed for me.....
I'll take my iPad so I can play and follow along with you all today.......

Good Morning
Barb, I use the Equate brand of Arthritis cream from WalMart for my leg cramps also....it has Trolamine salicylate and can stop a muscle spasm in just a few seconds...perhaps it would help your thigh.
Good thoughts to you all.
Mary thinking of you today....love the flowers.
Have a few more things in bloom
Sorry, you're not feeling up to par, Barb. I haven't had that, so don't have a clue what to tell you.
I had a busy, busy weekend. Even yesterday, did a little work in the garden in the morning, then Taynors came with the twins and we did a little therapy shopping. :o) Did us both good. She's looking fine. Has lost about 20 pounds and her body is nice and tight. Bet all the boys are watching her now!
Okay, just a couple pictures cause I'm on my way to a gardening job. Need to put in at least a couple hours pulling weeds and getting it ready for mulch. Last year it cost her $600 for mulch. I promised her it won't be near that much with me doing it!!!
Well, phooey. Can't find the pictures.
Happy Birthday Depsie....I do hope you are feeling better. Good thoughts to you on your special day.
Okay. Let's try this again.
1. New fairy I got in Canada at Betty's special place.
2. New stained glass garden piece from couple I taught mushrooms to.
3. Other new fairy from Canada. Betty has one like this, but it's bigger.
4. Pink Evening Primrose that's eating the garden...It is OUTTA HERE!
5. Marion and Ross's kousa dogwood tree. Well, in her honor and his memory. It's to the right of the waterfall. Can't see it too well in this picture. I took a better one, but haven't got it off the camera yet.
More later.
Love all the beautiful photo's!
Joyce, that isn't just a garden it is a botanical masterpiece!!!! Love the stained glass piece and the fairies. Well if evening primrose grows here I would be happy to take some off of your hands....:-)
Really bad storm late yesterday so things are beaten down here this morning.
Happy Birthday Deb..really enjoying your cake that LindaKay baked..here is hoping you are well and can get to enjoy it as well!!! oops I ate all the strawberries (hide my head in shame)
Joyce, love the garden photo's, beautiful..fairies sure look at home there, almost tempted to go across the street and buy me the medium size one who is sitting on the rock. drats, you frog is still crying for you, wish you would come and get him. Greg asked me what the crying near the gazebo the other night, we even went looking but he was nowhere to be found..missing his Joyce!
I have massive yellow primrose but not pink..they are lovely..you'll have to pack me up a care package now that we know how to get them home..lol how's that new plant of yours, doing ok? Girls, Joyce spent a good amount of time gabbing to her plant, no wonder she has such good luck in the gardens.
Jean love the beautiful flowers you've captured..amazing in variety!
Wow, that is a large amound of weight for Sue to have lost..glad she is feeling a tad better. What busy ladies you all are.
Debbie, how far are the swans from your house..bet it's nice sitting out in your yard enjoying the pretties.
Barb, sorry to hear you are laid up..thank goodness for ipads! Think bed is where I use mine the most lol Worth having Norm pick up Equate Arthritis cream..I also use aspercream, can also get Maximum Strenth Formula pills, guess the aspirin in it helps.
got to go read the previous thread I missed yesterday
yuk coffee getting cold
Hi - I'm in
Chula Vista. Waiting for a replacement window from the accident. No more headache (it might well have been from the fuel leak). I'm camped at Ace Tire where I am an old favorite customer. Nice guys who keep costs down as much as possible. This was expensive but the needed repairs were dangerous and I have the money so I'm not stressed out.
Will go to LA on Sunday. Amma will be there from Monday through Friday night or Saturday morning and, once I'm there the only stress is whatever she thinks I need.
Will be camping and reading for the rest of this week. Also shopping for parts for hummingbird feeders and glass flowers.
My family disowned me years ago except for my wonderful niece, Elizabeth. I am grateful. Glad Grace is seeing a nice man.
Have not heard from Tony so he's doing fine. I was able to leave him enough money that it should not be a problem. He gets a semi-vacation when I'm not there. Much as we like each other I'm sure he enjoys iyt (more than I do).
I will not be online much for the next couple of weeks so don't worry about me.
hugs, katie
Katie, glad you are feeling better. Please travel safe and take care of yourself. HUGS!!!
girls were just leaving my house, called to ask if I was mad or something seeing I hadn't called, drats, I don't like it when I'm busy here, just kidding, loving every moment of it..not only busy but didn't take a lunch and did some sewing, getting much accomplished!
Then Darlene called, says she has about 4 boxes of wood pieces, chemicals for stained glass/stained glass and bits for the cutter etc. sooo more coming my way.
Katie, glad you are resting and I'm sure you need not worry that Tony has everything under control at home.

Hello All !
Thank you Dianne and LK for the positive thoughts... they worked... I kept my mouth shut and got out of there in less than an hour.
Princess left me a card... I didn't read it yet. I had a lot to do today and didn't need my ADHD to kick in....
Dianne.. hope the weather gives you a break....
LK Hope you have some relief! Goodness.... don't know what to think about these Dr.s
Barb.... no advice other than potassium? Eat a banana. LOL I'm not the wise guru of this thread you can tell... but that's what we do when having muscle/nerve pain.....
What are GK's doing for summer ? Horseback ?
Jean your pics are amazing... I just have to figure out how to get glads in my yard. a gal at work brings in glad blooms from her mom (she is our age) and they are florescent practically.... I'm amazed at how pretty they are and I NEVER see them in the ground it seems
Happy Birthday Depsie !
Joyce your art is gorgeous! Pond is HUGE and I'm wondering if that is a Japanese Maple in your pic ?
Debbie Hubs has always wanted a clematis.... I may look for one for Fathers Day... a local nursery is closing (Louisiana Nursery on Florida BLVD Jean) and I may try to drop by there because the clematis we usually find here is sickly and expensive....
Katie... I do believe CHula vista is where I grew up... age 5-12..... what is there that draws you... family?
Hubs is out of town till Friday.
HUGS to all my friends...
Mary
Morning all, overcast today, always feel better after Wednesday is done with!
Ann came over last night for t.v. Bingo, you would think the offs after playing so many years is that we would win something but not.
I called her grandma, she said odds are against it, her feelings is they did not put Melissa in the hospital as yet because they are doubtful she will get through the next 4 weeks, once she gets to that point and birth viable they will put her in till end of term. Melissa is going today for testing, they want to see if she is holding her own or not so as you can imagine Ann is anxious.
Noah worked late, Melanie had called to say his teacher emailed her about social studies, test today on 6 types of family, history of changed in the family so i went online and armed myself for at least an hour of homework, HE was not happy about it, texted his mom, i dont care, homework it is..guess he got fed up and started to participate, i had told him he was to sit and if he didnt want to participate then hed listen to me. He wanted to go bike riding..gave him till 9:30pm..at 10:00 I was feeling anxious so I called Greg who said hed get dressed and go looking for him, no sooner did I call, Noah came in..he could see I wasn't a happy camper.
So would not want to be a parent, such difficult times..
Mary could the card not be one of thanks and it would just make your day?
Smiled when you said you kept your mouth shut, hard to do sometimes, sure makes it easier though. Hubby being away, does it give you more time to yourself or do you have to take on extra chores? First year my clematis seem to do well, took hints, put large hosta's at their feet, seems to work..had made climbers to hold the growth, when no growth I took them down and put in back shed, tonight I will take them out and set one for each to grow.. Hubby will enjoy fathering one..those at nursery right now have so much growth.
Well need to get myself ready, been playing lazy, getting up an hour later these days, seems like no time to do anything before leaving, best I get back into proper routine.
Gab in a bit
Good morning everyone. Well, doc says it's sciatica and the only thing for it is rest. She gave me a pain script but I don't know if I will take them. I may go with just the ibuprophen and a back brace for now and see what happens. I had a really bad reaction to pain meds one time and even though these are a different derivative I'm afraid to take them.... This too shall pass. And yes Mary, she told me to eat bananas!!!!!
As for the grandkids plans for the summer - it won't change much this year. For Brandon it is the horses and shows and for Sean it is baseball. That boy sure does love the game.
Sean comes here two days a week after school - Tuesdays and Thursdays as those are barn work days for Brandon who usually drives him home. Every once in a while I will get a message from Mom with an assignment for him to do. If he doesn't do it, he knows there will be no baseball that week. It took a while but he's good about doing it now. Noah has so many toys Betty, that I wouldn't know where to begin to limit him... It is a hard road you are going down and my heart is with you....
Barb, you are so righw, for parents who feel badly that theirs aren't able to provide the latest toys, technology for their children, I say, all the better! Greg just redid Noah's room, top to bottom, new flooring, closet organizers, flats screen tv, redid panel so you wouldn't see the plug, Noah wanted a bar fridge for his treats/pop, in the room it went..drats, not teaching these kids anything..few years ago kids wanted one of those chopper bikes like Greg designed, all got them..at some point there has to be changes..nothing and I wouldn't be fibbing if I said they have.. Guess they come across it honestly.
Barb, these kids are lucky to have the grandparents they have, kuddo's to you and Norm for caring in the same manner.
Ohhh that is not good about you not taking meds, will be forever healing..had a touch of same, most painful thing I had to endure..feel badly for you
Morning everyone!
Sure hope Melanie listens to the Dr.'s so she can carry that baby to term!
Barb, take it easy with your back, I have sciatica too, and it is not fun! My Dr. has me alternate heat and ice for an hour, 10 min for ice, 15 for heat, 10 for ice... Maybe a muscle relaxer like flexeril will help?
Morning,
Busy days ahead here. Going to Buffalo General today to see specialist for DD at the Neuro. Leaving here about 10:30.
Betty, didn't they say anything about sewing the cervic shut for Ann's daughter? I have two SIL's that had that done and both
carried to term. Sending prayers for healthy babies.
Barb, make sure you rest!! Glad you are close to the boys and can help.
LindaKay, I hope you are feeling better and get a call for cancellation. Those waits are horrible.
Looks like we are going to have a couple days of heavy rains here. Overcast right now, but talking storms moving in tonight.
Well, I have to get ready....so need to move along.
Waving to Thunder, Dianne, Joyce, Katie, Mary and Everyone!!!!
Debbie
Looking bad here this morning also.....humidity is horrible.
Betty, sometimes I get upset with my son and DIL about not letting the girls have everything but in reality I know it is for the best! I don't think kids today really appreciate all they do have and most think they are "entitled". It horrifies me to hear some of the stories Kim tells about kids who beg for better grades (not doing the work, mind you) because if they don't get that "A" they don't get a new car or whatever. Not saying that is the case with Noah but it is so prevalent among the high school students in this part of the country.
Debbie, they are talking about doing a surgery but want 4 weeks more in before they decide what is to be done. Careful on the roads...will wait for update.
Teacher is giving Melanie direction..i.e. what the test is about today as Noah presently has 54% and she wants it higher..again this morning I wrote out the 6 families, changes since the 60's that impact families and that is about all I can do, he did put the paper in his pocket so we'll see
It's funny....when children are small, every other word we utter is NO. But it seems as they grow older the desire to see them happy and be sure that they love us makes us forget how important No can be....It can be doubly hard when raising a Grandchild.....there is so much you want to make up for and it is very hard to curb the" Grandparents give goodies and love...parents get to do the hard work" mindset.
You are so right Jean, I'm always the fun grandma (trips/treats) but last night think he saw another side
really hard though..
Betty, it is really hard...but you are doing the right thing. If kids are handed everything...without having to put forth an effort, they don't learn.
They don't learn right from wrong. They don't learn work goals and how to do "team" work also. What is he going to do when a Boss tells him,
and he just says...nah, don't feel like it. I have also seen this "new" generation being the ones that have a hard time holding on to a job.
Front not caring how they look when going to work, napping on desks, having a hour for lunch....and taking all the time they want because so many
"new rules" they know they can't get fired unless it is a major issue. I have seen it with many young adults. SO, you are setting the ground work for
a good future.
Hugs!!
Sure hope so, don't want to end up NOT being the fun grandma..always such good times between me and the 4 boys
I was so envious of GS's maternal grandmother....she got to be the fun, buy things, go places, stay up late Grandma....while I was the homework, chores, bedtime, NO grandma....Grandson Jordan turned that all around in the 4th grade with a writing assignment...MY PARENTS....his first line was "My parents are very special, I call them Grandma and Grandpa."
Jean, that gave me goosebumps! Each year I attend Grandparents day with my GDs at their school. This year they asked the children to introduce their grandparent attending and if they wanted to tell something about them they could. Imagine my surprise when the youngest told I would bring a "grandma craft bag" when I come to baby sit but if she is bad, I will also put her in time out! They say confession is good for the soul....well that child did confess. LOL
How sweet....the good and not so good times with Grandma. It was a real conundrum for Jordan in first grade when they had Parents Day. He asked if his grandparents could come and the teacher told him it was for parents...Grandparents day would be in a few weeks. Teacher called to say he was upset and crying and they couldn't figure out why....could I please come to school. The minute I walked into the classroom he burst into tears and said "Grandma, they won't let you be my parent any more"......poor little sweetie. The teacher was so upset as she didn't realize we were his Grandparents.
Aw Jean what a lovely compliment. Jordan probably couldn't put it into words orally then but sure could on paper. I was just thinking of you as I was listening to Harry Connick Jr's new album Stormy Mary. He wrote all the songs as a way to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of his Krewe of Orpheus. The float itself has been dubbed Stormy Mary. Not the best I've heard him perform but certainly entertaining and upbeat. Sounds like they were having a blast recording it.
Betty I knew Noah was going to test the waters but don't you worry , stay firm and consistent and he will be thanking you. Mark my words he will, not this week or even this year but he will remember you helped him over a rough patch. Doesn't mean you can't still be the fun Grandma as you can still do lots of neat things with him. Too many parents fall into that trap of buying their kids everything. I know my brother did with his 2 sons who lived with him. Boy did those 2 boys get a rude awakening when they came to live with me and then with my parents. My DB always wondered why his house was always so chaotic with the boys shouting and acting up until they got what they wanted. It is interesting as 1 of his sons never had children and the other is a very strict parent.
Barb hope the pain is somewhat better today. Just keep resting even though it is hard to stay in 1 spot. I suppose it really hurts to sew, right?
Anxious to hear how Debbie's Shannon made out at the Neuro Opthma today? Sure hope this doc is as good as mine. These specialists in this field are so hard to come by. Sending positive thoughts.
Marian I need to Google that word you asked me about. Is it something to do with caves? Near Peterborough there are the Warsaw Caves which are amazing. I live south and west of Ottawa, and east of Toronto. If you shoot just about directly across Lake Ontario I would be near Debbie's.
Need some lunch since I forgot breakfast. I am not sleeping again and my hunger clock is all mixed up.
Dianne
Dianne, they are fossils....my hubby was a geologist. They are interesting little creatures for sure. It just came to me..it Arkona (not sure of spelling). Sorry about that but mind was wandering more than usual when I typed that.
We are getting some rain today so I am confined to the house..not bad as I am making progress with organizing my sewing items for the big official move to the soon to be completed sewing/guest suite. Wahoo...I am going to celebrate this event.
I know where Arkona is.... can see why your hubby was interested in that area. I was way off thinking it was caves. There that will teach me to speak before I Google. lol
Hi Dianne....Yeah, Harry has fun with his music....had to laugh...I was thinking of you and thought you might enjoy a relatively "new" group I was listening to today. Royal Southern Brotherhood. Cyril Neville, Devon Allman, Mike Zito....Southern Blues Rock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v8PWM0t9ac
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOmPOWoE-So
Nice music! I love Harry too, we have his Christmas album on CD, and listen to every Christmas!
Cyril Neville as in the famous musical Neville family? I played the first link and Sassy my cat jumped up,looked the the screen and stalked over to another chair. I liked it her thoughts are still out for decision.
One year when Harry was tweaking his Christmas show he did a free show for the town of Gananoque. The community was very impressed.
Yup...as in Aaron, Charmaine....that Neville family. Devon Allman is Greg Allman's son....from his carousing days in Texas...they only just met a very few years ago. Mike Zito is a fine guitarist

Oops...was gonna say my animals are music critics too...Benny the blind Beagle loves...or maybe hates Janis Joplin...we just aren't sure which, but he sings along everytime I play one of her albums...and Bob D Warrior Zombie cat perches on top of the speaker when I play AfroCelt sound system.
