Bell pepper pest unidentified

Auburn, AL

For about two weeks my poor pepper plant (which is potted) has been gradually acquiring some leaf damage. I'm just worried whatever pest or disease is causing this might harm the peppers! I tried leaving out beer traps, no slugs. I'd prefer not to put chemicals on the plant. Any ideas about what it is or what I can do?

The pictures that show large amounts of damage (the first one, almost half the leaf is eaten) suggest a larger pest like a caterpillar. That is the one I would concentrate on.
The pictures that show small holes or slightly misshapen leaves are minor issues, and not worth worrying about.

Roll up a sheet or two of newspaper, loosely. Set it near the pepper plant, perhaps actually in the pot. Many pests will come out to eat a leaf then go back into hiding. Pick up the roll every morning. If you want to see what might be in there, unroll it into a white 5 gallon bucket.

The second picture looks like the leaf got burned. If it is just one leaf, and does not recur, then skip it.

I have had tomato worms take down a pepper plant in 2 days. So keep your eyes open.
