Thought it was time to move us into a new room,
Think it will be at Marion's seeing our neighborhoods are without sunshine

Your dinner sounds excellent Betty. What's everybody else having? Go ahead make my mouth water.
Very windy here too. Probably got up to 55* today but is starting to cool down. Glad I kept the fire going. At one point today the fire was burning away and I had all the windows open.
Thanks for the new room Betty.
I'm all cuddled in until I head to bed..
Lordy Missy is sneezing like crazy, never did so until this week..hmm odd
Had a wonderful pot roast dinner tonight. Norm did it this time as I was busy sewing. He did an excellent job!!!
It is still raining and the wind is terrible. They are talking about the cicadas coming this year - well, if this wind leaves some leaves on the trees maybe they will but the way it is blowing now there won't be anything for them to eat!!!!! The weatherman said the wind chill makes it seem like 34* right now!!! Sure won't be buying plants for a while....
The yard looks great Betty and you have done a masterful job with the pond. Glad you have some help.
Dianne, you must be so cold up there. I've had you on my mind all day today. Fire up that stove and get a good pot of tea going!!!!
Hope Linda Kay is okay and got out of San Antonio quickly. Prayers for her family there. The flooding is severe....
Must do my breathing machine. Have a great evening.....
Almost associate pot roast with fall/winter, sure feels like it. Bet Norm does wonders with the pot roast!
When visiting Judy a few years ago came cross the sounds of the cicadas, Lordy talk about noisy! Have you had them in your region? Dont recall coming across them this far north.
What were you sewing on Barb?
Bones are just aching, think I'll get comfy in my bed
do kitties get colds?
LOL, Dianne once you have climbed that hill, I don't think you ever forget it. I would be in serious trouble if I tried to do it now. Thinking about that year I was there brings back some really wonderful memories. Again, I am hoping to be able to go visit before much longer but it is all contingent on mom now.
Kim is over her illness--going through the school it seems. She is just exhausted now. Classes ended Thursday but the finally post planning days for the teachers are ended up being meetings all day.....she doesn't do well with those. She goes back Tuesday for one more day then she is finished until the end of July. Time to get ready now for her 2 weeks in the Dominican Republic...2 weeks of intense classes!!
Yes, Betty I did get the recipe you posted for the poison ivy. That is at the top of my list now. Did a walk around checking and I several areas that have gotten really bad....coming from neighbor's yard but it will not be slighted! :-) I will give theirs the same treatment mine gets..being neighborly don't you think.
Yes, I know where the plants are going. I have a huge umbrella shaped wrought iron plant hanger a vendor made for me years ago. The new things will be potted to hang on the stand....to hard digging here because of so many tree roots.
Well, I need to see what I can find for dinner. Fresh cheese cruds Dianne? Oh wow, I had forgotten how good they are....need some.
I've driven 1000 miles since Thursday morning! The hubs and I drove to the Western part of North Carolina to do some geocaching. We got off the Interstate just North of Charlotte and drove small highways the whole rest of the trip. We found wonderful little country diners, saw some gorgeous views, and enjoyed finding some interesting caches. Now to pile in with the furbabies and enjoy the rest of our weekend.
A quick hello. I have picked up a bug somewhere and battling a fever, 101.4, and feeling rather nasty since yesterday afternoon.
Have gone nowhere but the couch.
Heading to bed. DH worked all day and working tomorrow, so I am at leisure to rest.
Waving to all,
Debbie
Has anyone heard from our Debbie today? Did I miss that she was going somewhere? It is just not like her to at least touch base no matter how chaotic her day turns out. I am concerned.
Apparently the propane heaters I lent the neighbours for their BBQ were quite the hit. lol This young family entertains a lot and are very active in both of the kids' sports teams so I think I will give them the tents. I sure am not going to be setting up a booth outside at this stage of the game.Even if I did a show it would be an inside one.The kids brought me down some cake - very sweet gesture.
That's a lot of miles Lanakila. You must have buns of steel! Curling up with the furries sounds wonderful.
Barb the pot roast sounds perfect for today. Even the skeeters are shivering here.
Sweet dreams everyone.
Debbie I am sorry you are so ill but thank you for finding the energy to stop by. Huge hugs to you.
hugs and sweet dreams every one.....safe holiday weekend.
worked early today and again tomorrow, got to try to get some sleep.
Lanakila, wow that is a lot of miles for geocache, fun sightseeing in these little towns. Trying to remember, do you put something in the cache or report on line..think it's the latter.. You now have a few days to re energize. Did you find a lot of weeds when you got back?
Debbie, NOT the thing you wanted to have on a long weekend..hope that family of furries and humans are looking after you. If not better by morning I think emerge is where you should go..with all the health issues you are experiencing not worth taking a chance. Hopefully rest of family won't come up with it!
Dianne, was it the tower heaters they used? last week in Tobermory at the fish nd chip place I said to the girls that I must have gotten some sun, left cheek was burning, they laughed, one of those high heaters was beside me, not sure what was getting cooked more fish or me. First time I hear you mention if you were to do another show, do you think you would??
Thunder, did you have a lot of catching up to do at work when you got back? Bet Malena is updating you daily on her sister..
Marion, just know you would have a place for them. Can't wait for the day you are able to visit canadian family, not far from me then..lol.
Will Kim have any time to relax? To be on such a beatiful island and not seems such a shame..are these upgrading sabbaticals put on by USA teaching assc?
Joyce, what kind of mischief did you girls get into today at the round up? Doesn't seem fair you are doing adventures without me. Boo hoo
Did sue enjoy it? What did you bring home?
Been watching the bonfire across the street burn, look so inviting, guess the party is over as they just put it out.
Can't sleep so planning my day..
Will phone Walmart and check what time they open? Hip waiters and supplies
Few loads of rock from Ann's
Trimming/weeding/planting
Batch of hypertufa
Fix large pond water feature
Wash outdoor floormatts and lawn furniture
Now I'm tired, off to bed
Need to find my voltaren. Lol

Omg Cody, I'm not the only one up at this time of day..are you just going to bed or can't sleep..wondered where you got off to? Is it raining in your neck of. He woods as well?
Mornimg all,
Sunshine day in my neighborhood, hoping same is in yours.
Cody, will try to move the thread at 100 and if I forget then perhaps someone else can do it for us!.
Did a walk around the garden, pulled a few handfuls of weeds, handful at a time right? Much too damp so will have my coffee then off to Walmart for supplies, also need bags of soil, seems two pieces of slate are still too low...
What do you have planned for today? LindaKay is it today you all get together?
Jean, how is your gardens, bet both you and Mary are walking in gardens fit for paradise
Debbie here is hoping you wake feeling much better..
Prayers for Deb
Katie, you are quiet, must mean you are either busy or feeling down, if down know we are here.
too easy if I sit long to get lazy so best I get a move on.
Good morning....
And easy kind of day here today. I was going to go shopping today but with temps in the fifties it is a bit too cold for me. I'll stay nice and warm in the house I think.. Norm is going to Sean's ball game this afternoon. They play no matter what. So I guess I'll either make a puzzle or sew. I've been working on a simple throw. I bought the material last year when I visited Thea at a lovely quilt shop near her. That should keep me busy. Or 1000 pieces of cardboard!!!
Saw on the news where San Antonio had severe flooding. Hope Linda Kay and her family are okay.
I'd go for the sewing Barb..about same weather here although the sun is out and wind is up.. can you share photo Barb, throw sounds wonderful, how is Thea doing..miss her
Sean will be pleased to have a cheering galery at the game..are they ontop?
LindaKay, if you can please let us know if you are being affected by this flooding..might have to send her my hip waders
Think mankind hasn't been following the rules of the LORD, whichever religious being you believe in..sure sounds like he's telling us something.
Joyce I can play in the pond now..lol update on your round-up, who was there..
went to Norm's..they had a big bag of pearlite..$39...guess I'd save on gas going in two or three times trying to do mushroom set gifts so worth it in the long run..Riley has been sleeping a lot, didn't go visiting this weekend, cottagers must not be up. Missy is grabbing up what sun rays there I..what a life
haven't heard anything from any of the gang, they all got in late last night from Jamaica, likely a quiet day for them.
got everything I need to fill my day while in town, now it's deciding where to start
Kim will have a couple of weeks of "down time" between the 2 week studying in the DR and starting back to work. I am hearing rumblings about starting her PhD in the fall. Only time will tell.
Hot here today so not doing much outside work. Planting hanging baskets under the carport then when it cool will move them to the wrought iron hanger. Looking for some new places to place some hydrangeas and chilling out will be all of my activities for the day.
Be safe everyone and Debbie, take it easy and I hope you recover very fast!! Not fun being sick this time of year.
Every thing is growing by leaps and bounds....we've had a good bit of rain and lots of heat and sun. My Lycoris aurea has multiplied like crazy and I mentioned on another thread that I had some extra when a user mentioned she was looking for some.....discovered there were a couple other folks also looking.....this is the time of year that they go dormant before putting out blooms in Sept/Oct....as of Friday I have shipped out over 100 bulbs.....and think, unless I run across another patch of them, that I have thinned them out enough for a year or two....now I think I may have to start thinning out the crinum lilies also.
Gladiolas and Daylilies and roses are all blooming and the Hibiscus (ROS) are starting to bud and bloom....supposed to be in the high 80's today, but there is a nice breeze, so not too bad outside.
Hope you all have a safe weekend and that warm weather makes its' way to you soon.
Color me "green" with envy for those plants Jean.......pictures above that is....just beautiful.
Thanks Marion....I am slowly but surely trying to fill the garden with plants that can "manage" on their own. I am tired of babying persnickety plants GRIN I want things that rebloom or have an extended bloom season....things that look good even when not in bloom and things that offer food and shelter to birds and bees and butterflies....DH said I should just grow weeds.....grin
I understand....the only things I need to "baby" go into containers but I am trying to do pretty much the same when I plant in the ground. Hard to plant a lot of things because of so many trees and roots.
Lordy, I'm envious as well, especially as my gardens are green, green and more green! Beautiful, decided to purchase bulbs, regardless of what it is as LNG as I don't have to take them out of the ground and plant..guess that is a springtime thing?
Do you spend a lot of time jean just sitting and enjoying the beauty? Beyond stunning! Dh is right, would be a lot less work for you.lol. Thank you for letting us view your pretties, please post more..wearing sad face, no daylillies..anyone know how long daililly bug stays alive in the ground without a daylilly to eat..sure would love to plant more...
Have a shrub just opening, will have to take photo..can I see what you licorice plant looks like, not the trailers right..please put me on the list for next year..am sure Debbie would plants it them until I can pick them up..
Marion, am sure by the time Kim finishes all the levels she wants it will be time for her to retire..lol
no babysitting plants here neither..it's do or die..don't even know their names
just pulled the rubber glove off the hand I made..learning process..didn't make the palm deep enough to plant a flower in..will make another
started the day with a plan but got a bit sidetracked..
on Mother's Day list of things to do was attach 10 solar lights to steps of the 3 decks..got that done
as well were large hooks to hand things in the back shed, got that done
cooking eggs for egg salad sandwiches and then try and do some of what was on my initial list
shaking my head, why on earth did I not buy hip waders before now..got large pond water feature going, wasn't cold nor did I come in stinking..well maybe stinking a bit from sweating..please be Monday so I can go to work to rest
No wonder I'm envious, went outside to look for flowers to take photo off, hmmm all green except a few
Lots of work and aching back with nothing to show..
peonies won't be long blooming in the front garden, be awhile in the back gardens I think
In the very back yard hidden away it's lush green with little blue flowers saying comes and sit, what was once a water fountain now waits for annuals..few trees growing where i don't want them so will transplant at the rear of this area..about the only place I can see a neighbor, I'll fix that, like to feel I'm in a world of my own
hops are just starting to grow strong, shortly the secret garden will be secret
almost tempted to take hot bath then go back out and continue my list of things to do..can't make the hypertufa caps until about 5pm so that they will not dry before I get home tomorrow night so I can distress
Can't wait to call the boys and say 'Mother's Day' to do list is done, you can come and visit now... joking of course, one has been in Jamaica, the other redoing his entire upstairs and having a leg injury..add in the rain/wind and when could they do it but I'll tease anyway and get the lecture that goes along with 'you could'nt wait could you'
Did fix the hanging glass piece but much too heavy to hang on my own so that I will wait for Greg..only takes manpower
time to eat
You all must be enjoying your LNG weekend!
Skitters encouraged me to call it a day..much accomplished..waiting long enough only to see if the step solar lights are working then off to bed.
Debbie, hope you are improving and almost over the bug..
Happy Birthday Janice...hope it was a special day for you!
Is this the bug you are talking about Betty?
http://www.daylilies.org/ahs_dictionary/tarnished_plant_bug.html
Happy tomatoes, Jalapenos,Daylily,Glad,Daylily
The plant I am talking about is Lycoris, not licorice....but I am sure if you want to keep them in a container, they would add some late color for you. They are only hardy to zone 7. I know I can find you a few .....there is one patch I haven't touched yet....was playing lazy, but I can surely tease a few out from the edge.....grin

Goodness! I hope that Debbie is doing better today. Never, ever fun to be sick that badly!
Some geocaches are big enough to share "schwag", some only big enough to sign the log. Regardless, you also log it online. We also did some that are Virtual, so you go there an email answers to some questions to the cache owner. We especially enjoy those because you go to neat places and get to learn stuff by reading plaques or going through little museums and such. It's always nice to meet people who are passionate about whatever they are preserving. This was the view overlooking an old copper mine that is in Tennessee, just over the state line from North Carolina. The lady that was the docent at this place actually grew up right there. The copper is what makes the water that blue color. Same stuff they put in Miracle Gro to make it blue.
I'm still putting stuff out in my beds. I'm a novice gardener, so this is the first year that I've got a lot of stuff to put in. Usually it's been a half-dozen new perennials, a few tomatoes, and call it good. This year I'm a bit more ambitious. I bought/swapped a lot of seeds and had fairly good success getting them to sprout. I've even got extras to share at the Carolinas Roundup next weekend!
Hello To All ;
Deb...please feel better soon... that's what happens when you give 110% to everyone else and no Debbie Time..... Chicken soup and local honey.... (HUGS)
Bev thought about you today... Hubs says my daylilies that have not bloomed yet will NOT bloom this year... I want to challenge that....
Jean love those photos... would love to try glads .... do not know much of them. We have a rather orange tomato today so I'm envious of those with home grown already... but it's just around the corner.....
Oh Betty got to plan a Mothers Day .... maybe you should do a Fathers Day "To do " list LOL.....
Lana... that sounds like the perfect vacation I'd love to just travel.... eat at local places.... Barb that pot roast sounds marvelous !
DD's were home this weekend... I made DSD1's favorite chicken dish. She has yet to eat it but made a double batch and first batch is almost gone.....
DS has been AWOL...
Hubs and I are going to work at a friends coffee shop / gelateria tomorrow. To Learn. In NOLA.... (HUGS)
Got a LOT done in the yard today and yesterday...... Not a paradise yet Betty but maybe in about 4-5 weeks....
HUGS
Mary
Morning everyone..
Gorgeous day, hated to come in but if I want to spend $$$ I have to work..sad state of affairs lol
Jean, yes that is the bug, will do more researching to see if it likely is still living in my gardens..maybe easiest way is buying a lily, planting it and seeing if it survives..my mouth is watering looking at those tomatoes..we mostly have beefsteak here, what are yours? Have to check what Lycoris is..I can wait until next year but thanks for putting me on your list..
Oh wow Lanakila, look at that blue..your adventure is interesting for sure..what a way to spend a holiday. Surely the area of the coal mine was the rewarding..could you tell me approx where it is?? might have to include it on my August trip ..might just be on my way home. You are a busy lady, now heading out to a roundup..none in my neck of the woods..we are too far apart..just as well or I'd have more plants sitting waiting for me to plant..you've got the plant bug for sure.
Mary, all but finished the list, changing a livingroom plus I'll not attempt or I'll be no more..cutting hole for new grate..likely it would end up twice as large as I need..setting of patio stones for gazebo, much too heavy for me to undertake..oh well, nothing that can't wait till fall or next spring. So here you have today off for holiday and here you are out working in the Gelateria, on the other hand how much fun is that being in New Orleans.
Suzanne is back, she wasn't feeling the best before leaving for Jamaica and it's gotten progressively worse...trying to set up Dr's appointment. She should be home and in bed..
Spoke with Sharon, actually 3 dogs she lost..one was deformed, likely the reason the mom was having such difficulties..she's not a happy camper..will meet up with her Sunday before going to Caleb's Confirmation and have lunch..
Good Morning
Betty those are the Celebrity variety tomatoes, we also have yellow plum and husky cherry. Here is the link for Lycoris aurea http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/90139/ and a picture of mine. They have been sent to North and South Texas, Alabama and Georgia.....but would have to be kept in a container in your neck of the woods.
Sorry about Sharon losing the puppies...know she is heartbroken and angry.
Hope you all have a lovely day
They are beautiful Jean, you have large area planted with them..sounds as though you've garden after garden! Nice when they are planted to have blooms throughout all seasons.
Lilac's almost over, the comes wriegelia, eye stoppers but again don't last long
When we first moved here, in 2001, we were coming from a very small area to garden in to a full acre....my initial thought was beds everywhere....Common sense and age have made me rethink that....I am slowly but surely consolidating areas, moving plants and letting some beds return to lawn. I am working toward mostly hardy perennials, low maintenance shrubs and small trees....over the first 3 years, I had 26 areas to tend.....now I have it down to about 14 plus the greenhouse. I love lots of color, but have decided that a few hardy reblooming plants and shrubs with both blooms and foliage colors will work to provide that. I have gotten to the point that if it won't survive with a bit of gentle neglect, it doesn't belong in my garden.
Same thought here Jean..that's one heck of a lot of gardens!
Age sure makes you see things in a different light doesn't it.
Bev, had hoped the weather had improved in your area, must be overwhelming for you to know how much work there is to be done in the gardens and not be able to get to it..love the 2nd photo..brilliant colors.
When Joyce visited I just had to show her my cannister set you gave me..treasured set in my cupboard, no door where it sits so all can see!
