Veggie garden in former bamboo patch

This may be an odd question, but does anyone know the effects that bamboo has on the nutrients in soil? As far as, might the bamboo have made the soil deficient in some nutrient?

We have bamboo going crazy in our yard. Two years ago, I dug out a big patch (almost 8'x8'), and that is where I put the garden this year. All of the bamboo in that area has been completely removed. I'm wondering if there is any nutrient I might want to focus on replacing in that area.

I considered soil testing, but the soil all over my yard is so different, that I'm not sure I would get helpful results. The back yard of this house was used as a nursery for a while. Also, right before we moved in, it was being used as a grow-op; when the police disposed of the plants, they dumped the dirt from the pots along the fence in various places.
