My plant is growing weird

Holland, MI

Is this normal? I have never seen any plant grow like this. Should I cut it? What would make it grow like this? I don't know how it's going to be able to grow more.

This is normal for that plant.
Syngonium and similar plants will start off looking like they are just leaves on stems all coming from the middle of the pot. The 'stems' that you see at that early stage are actually called petioles, and they are the special sort of stem that holds the leaves.
After a while the plant starts growing a real stem, which is in your picture. A thick, strong stem with roots starting (the hard little nubs) and petioles wrapped around it. Each spot where the roots and leaves are attached is called a node.

My Syngonium has trailed over 6' down, and is on its way back up. It has several stems that are doing this. I am growing mine in an aquarium, with the roots in the water, and the stem and leaves outside the tank.

You can also grow this plant in a hanging basket. They can be grown in a pot on a shelf or table, but they will hang there, too, and might become so awkward that they fall off the table. Some way to keep it balanced is important, or hanging is safer.

If you want to take cuttings of this plant you can. Include several nodes with each cutting. It will root in water. Change the water often so it stays oxygenated. When you have several (3-5) cuttings rooted, plant them in one pot, each facing toward the outside, away from each other. This will make a more symmetrical plant.

Cat, I thought the same thing when I got mine, I thought I'd gotten a reject LOL, I used a small trellis until it filled in more, but as Diana said they do look great in hanging baskets. Your's looks very healthy.

Yeah this one is in a hanging basket. These are growing like weeds in my house. I have 2 hanging baskets and a huge culvern full and that's on a chair.

This plant is an epiphytic vine. It would grow up the trunk of a tree in a tropical setting, with aerial roots at certain points, holding the vines to the trunk and/or eventually down to the ground, and develop mature-form, split leaves, like this one in New Orleans.
