I bought a Rebutia Muscula cactus and it now lives in a south facing window sill. It's got buds and I'm excited to see the flowers. I looked it up on the net and found one article that says the parent plant dies after flowering, but didn't see this in any other article. I have lots of pups so I will still have plants, but is this true? No other article out of about 6 mentions it, and I'd think someone else would.
Thanks,
Coloradomolly
Do Rebutia cactus plants die after flowering?
Hi coloradomolly, there a quite a lot of plants that die off after flowering, several are in the Cactus family so the best answer I can offer you is to enjoy this plant while you can and take good care of it's offspring. I am not sure how long it will be before the little ones will give flowers but am sure it will be several years before maturity.
Best of luck WeeNel.
