Heliconia

Pune, India

Hi all,

I wanted to know if all heliconia grow well in shade? I have a Heliconia pendula and it is growing very happily :))

Ayrshire Scotland, United Kingdom

Hi ynk, sorry but don't recognise any plant be that name but that's not unusual as most regions use different names which is why, if I can, I give out the proper name also as that.s universal but no worries. IF your plant is happy, growing well, looks like it's thriving in the situation you have it, the DON'T change anything.
IF it's in shade and happy then why disturb it, if it's in good light or sun then it must like that.
You will soon know IF it's not suitable for the situ in time you would notice some form of distress like pale leaves, drooping foliage or flowers or poor growth, that's when you would want to alter the care you are giving. so carry on as you are. someone else who knows the plant may be able to tell you otherwise to put your mind at rest.
Good luck, WeeNel.

Thanks for that info flowAjen, it's always great when someone helps me out with the plant and a Pic to look at is even better, as you will probably know we don't grow a lot of the tropical plants here in UK so I don't know a lot about them unless I can grow them as indoor plants.

I now recognise this plant as part of the Bird of Paradise group and will take Note of the name for future, they are rather fast growing for indoor plants here but hey that one is lovely so maybe give it a try and I can always split it up when overgrown, ha, ha, ha, DH is going to love that messy job eh !!!!. He's the fall guy when heavy jobs are called for, as I'm getting stiffer and older LOL.
Best regards, WeeNel.

Be careful what you wish for flowAjen, I have a largish conservatory and at times it's filled to the gills with plants to the extent, you need to hold onto some foliage just to get your bum on a seat, but hey, indoor gardening becomes an addiction just as outdoors does, I also have a large greenhouse so wont even go there or you will think I'm mad, but to be fare, the greenhouse in more need the want as my mother would say when I was buying another pair of shoe's. I can still here her voice asking "do you really need that, OR do you just want it" she went through WW2 bringing us kids up where everything was on ration including clothes, furniture, bedding AND food, so she never lost the value of anything.
Have a great gardening season.
WeeNel.
