but usually not colon cancer
same thing with breast cancer in young women, don't usually find that
girl in Philly found out she had breast cancer, they removed tumor but it spread, her doctors didn't understand why...found out she keeps her cell phone in her bra...exact spot the cancer was found
Coffee Break # 96
My SILs sister had breast cancer at 28 double mastectomy at 30. They have a history of cancer in the family, brother died of melenoma at 22 other brother died of brain cancer at 55, mom died at 48 not sure if it was cancer related I think it was.
Awful heritage......same with a friend of mine....she lost 2 sisters & a daughter to breast cancer....she survived it.
Yes, people get these cancers at any age, though it is more common at older ages.
Got my reminder for a colonoscopy, must schedule.
I really appreciate DG and you guys. My youngest son is flying from Texas to be in a wedding Friday night. Saturday we will head to the farm where I grew up so he can hunt for shark teeth in the stream banks, then on to Newark airport to pick up a friend on our way to Kent, CT where I will drop them off so they can get up early Sunday and start hiking the Appalachian trail south. So I looked at the map and saw that RD isn't too far away and I requested to stay overnight with her. Thankfully she agreed. I am beyond excited!!
An item on my bucket list is to travel the country visiting DGers. I have a good start. Love it!!
He and the buddy shipped their packs here UPS. They have both arrived. I'll tell you that I wouldn't want to be carrying either one of them. The plan is to pick them up at the Del. water Gap on July, 2. Their plan is to average 20 miles/day. Would appreciate your prayers for safety. Andy has been wearing a brace on his ankle for a week. I am hoping he is smart about it and got it checked out today.
Prayers for safety and a wonderful time too, Jan. I've dayhiked about a ten mile stretch to Wind Gap on several occasions since I was a wee little one. As long as there is no hunting season or hunters around I would think it's pretty well traveled by fellow hikers this time of the year. How far are they hiking? Are you going to check out a bit of it? Hope it's all wonderful. I love the idea of a DG hostel exchange.
Thankyou. I've only been on the section near Wind Gap cuz we could walk up the hill from our yard and get on the trail. But not since 1960 when we moved away when Rt. 33 came through and took some our property(imminent domain). Then we moved to the farm in NJ.
I love the idea of a DG hostel exchange. Anyone is welcome anytime as long as I'm home.
I am sure we'll have a lovely time.
I would prefer a Not Home Exchange. I like to be stealthy.
Of course you would. Heehee
Sounds like fun Jan
That sounds so cool Jan enjoy your visit with Marylin! Always wanted to hike more just can't do it now, good for your son.
Anyone that doesn't mind sharing with Great Danes and a smelly Bulldog is welcome here!! Lou is pretty tame too.
Heehee. My brother has had great Danes and whenever I took mom to their house I would have to make sure she was next to something strong and stable cuz she was easy to tip over whenever the dogs would lean on her. Oh, and then they thought they were lap dogs. Her lap. Pretty funny.
Yup, Winston is a huge leaner. When I had him at the vet's last week he was sitting on my lap in the waiting room, the tech was hysterical.
I can just see that! I have always liked lap dogs. Maybe I need a Dane too :)
I have wonderful memories of the mountains around Wind Gap from childhood visits to relatives there. Still want the natural look of the mountains in my back yard to keep the memory of my mother and aunt alive. They shared all the secrets of nature-- the taste of a black birch twig, the smell of sweet fern when you crush the leaves, "Indian beads" in the mountain streams, water you could actually drink... I thought they knew every plant and it's use. Now we're settling the final parts of the estate, so there is real nostalgia here for it all.
Sensory memories are wonderful!! The water was good! RosesRRed lives near there as does gardadore.
I've hiked the Appy Trail from Cornwall to Kent many times.....pretty flat, runs next to the Housatonic River......lots of birds, so I try to get there at least once a year. I'm excited to have Jan stay with me......All are welcome here if you don't mind weedy gardens....I'd like to emulate Bill, but it's not happening!
It would really be great to be able to hike the whole thing from Maine to Georgia. Nice that Jan's son has the opportunity to take a long hike.
Yep, he is hoping this is the first of many legs. Maybe his father and brothers can do some of it together.
The best time to do this stuff is when you're young.
Every person I have encountered who is doing the entire thing, at least those doing it alone, has been a bit 'off'.
when do you begin?
Already did it - walking backwards and talking to myself the whole time. Also backwards.
And in an orange prison suit, no less! 😈 Quite a picture, Victor!
Whaaaaa, I wish I were going to be in CT then to meet up with you two. Have to be in NH then. I know you will have a great time together!
Love the Dane lap dog image! 😃
Sme shots tonight of the Big Bloom on our antique 1880s roses here at the farm.
That is beautiful! Wish I look that good when I'm that old.
Heehee. Google Emma Gatewood. Several articles about her. She started the AT first time when she was 65. She stopped at my folk's place in PA. And got food, etc. I have a picture of me with her when I was little. She stopped in the next time, too. Quite a character. My son could learn a lot from her. She packed VERY little. I can hardly pick up my son's pack.
I know, DB. That would have been great! Another time, I promise.
I signed Sophie my DGD up for horse camp today. She will go for a week in July 9:00-3:00, she can't wait. I'm really excited for her and it's only 15 minutes away. Luci will go next year. Looking into helmets, I have a lot to learn.
helmets & a boot with a heel.
louise in the farm on the other side of the world?? it looks great when I stand on my head.
Wish you could join us, Louise! Getting together with Pam on July 8th....hoping to see Jo & Debi in August....My brother phoned at 6:45 this morning.....thought something was very wrong.....no, he wanted to know what time I would be at the WFF sale.....well, thanks to him I got there at 8, was the 3rd car in the lot.....of course, they didn't open til 9, so chatted with him, & many strangers, till they opened! Spent $52.00 for 3 caladiums, a cleome, a campanula, per. geranium, 2 heucheras, 3packs of lily bulbs (11total), 1 dahlia, a coleus, an anenome,a yarrow, & a penstemon! There were no elephant ears this year :>(, but I think I did just fine.......

Just fine, indeed!!
Wow! I'd say you hit the jackpot! Glad to see you've got lots of great visits coming up! You and I will connect once we know what is happening in Florida and we get down to CT for a few days.
Bill.....yes.....we have moved to the other side of the world! LOL.
Yes, Louise, we have to get together.....you know you'll be seeing weeds, right? It's not Bill's garden?
Oh no, Marilyn! Remember.....there are no weeds....only wildflowers that are happily fitting into a new home. You know you are talking to someone who has actually given a couple of weeds names, don't ya?.....yeah, I know....too much information. 😱
love you guys!!... great haul!!!!
nice haul!
Son is thrilled they opened a Lego store closer to us, went to grand opening
Great. Anyone playing with the new Mindstorms? ;( my kids don't do that anymore
I just had to look that up. Those look awesome. May have to look into that for Henry, especially. He is usually in his own little world. Must have DH check it out. Maybe some of his former students have sets they would be willing to sell. Thank you
Louise, too funny! I have names for the weeds, but you don't want to know! Have never heard of Mindstorms......
I had to look up Mindstorms as well. I don't think that younger grandchildren, ages 9 & 11 have them.
The 11 year-old might be almost old enough if very interested. We had the previous generation of Lego Mindstorms stuff from two kids doing the First USA contests. I see signs for the new one in the toy stores. It's becoming a magnet because of college scholarships to former contestants.
The other cool kid toy that people I have told have gone out to buy is the Digital Blue microscope--used to be made by IBM but I don't know if they're still around. DD2 was thrilled to see digital images of common stuff like blades of grass when she was 10 , so it may have helped shape her interest in science.
