A few questions:
1) My Colocasia Black Beauty have been growing great in ground for 2 months now and are about 2 1/2 feet tall. Today, I noticed it is putting out a flower. Is that normal? I thought they flowered later in the summer or in fall.
2) I dug up and moved some lilies in the fall and replace them with other plants. Well, obviously I missed one and noticed it today. It is about 2 or 3 inches above the ground right now and I was wondering if it is ok to dig up and move elsewhere and still have it grow & bloom this year?
3) How much water do Hardy Geranium Blue need or like? I ran across a website a few days ago that said to water it 24 inches deep when watered. That sounded like a lot to me, so maybe someone here can help.
4) How much water do Widow's Tears prefer?
5) I have read the directions, but am still going to ask here: Is it ok to spray All Seasons Horticultural & Dormant Spray on all plants?
I'll be back when I think of more questions LOL
Thanks!
Questions about a variety of plants
Question 1. I have not seen this plant in flower to be honest so, leave well alone as the part you think is a flower bud could well be a new leaf begin to unfurl, but again I'm giving a guess rather than a know all answer.
Question 2. Yes IF your careful you can did up the Lily bulb and replant it. personally, I'd leave it to flower and after the foliage dies down or right after the flower is dead, check see if the neighbouring plant is OK to be disturbed, then did up or wait till autumn and do it when everything is dormant, make sure you remove soil around the bulb.
Question 3. ALL hardy Geraniums like shallow dryish conditions, water ofcource when really dry weather persists but these are plants for under other shrubs or taller plants where they get some sun. Mine send out new seedlings every year and just wander about finding their own places, that's what's nice about them, they turn us in places you could not get a plant to grow. Cut the plant back after flowering and you will get a second flush of flowers end of season.
Question 4. Don't know the plant Widows tears by that name so can you give any other name.
Question 5. I have never sprayed anything on plants that are dormant, nature tells ALL plants when to emerge and to be honest, IF you use stuff to get plants to burst into growth too early, all you do is help it produce soft, weak growth and normally this gives a second problem as it can be attached by disease, infestation from insects or colder days cause wilt. leave well alone and maybe amend your soil with as much humus you can get hold of (horse manure well rotted) is the best, horse owners are only too happy to get rid of the horse waste, but it adds nutrients, air and helps feed the plants better than any spray can help nature along.
Best regards and good luck. WeeNel.
