tropical pitcher plant

La Grande, OR

Help! I ordered a tropical pitcher plant online and it arrived! However, I really have no idea how to best care for this tiny plant. Right now I've got it in a terrerium bowl sitting on pebbles. I live in eastern Oregon, and it's unusually warm right now, and relatively dry. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Many pitcher plants come from humid jungles where it is very warm most of the time. I would water it with room temperature distilled or reverse osmosis water, in an attempt to match the tropical rain forest it came from. No fertilizer. Fairly bright light, direct morning light, or just barely back from the window with south or west exposure. Keep a tray of damp pebbles near it to raise the humidity. These are often epiphytes, a plant that perches among the branches of a tree. Not a parasite, they are simply growing in a spot that has better light than the jungle floor.

Here is a link to a local place that has more info about carnivorous plants.

Give it BRIGHT indirect Sun, water with rainwater or distilled water only. Feed every 2 weeks with a 1/4 strength orchid fertilizer.
