Staking a Monstera

Castle Rock, CO

How do I go about staking this bad boy? I haven't even had this plant a year! Got it last June and it was all small leaves with no splits. I ended up cutting off several leaves this winter to get it under control. I tried staking it to these bamboo sticks but its just too heavy. I have read to use a moss covered pole but can someone give me more specific instructions? I'd like to keep all the leaves so it looks thick but the way the branches of this plant go all over I'm not clear how I get them to grow on a pole... Any tips/instructions appreciated thank you!!

They don't really climb on a support, they lean on it. Aerial roots go down to the soil and eventually harden. Here's your plant upright.

You need to fix a strong brace for your monstera, then tie the main stem ( the one that the leaf stems are growing from) to it. If you can't find really large bamboo stakes, try 1"X1", or similar size, stakes. Cut in maybe 3' lengths, push 3 of them firmly into the soil, down to the bottom of the pot, tie them together at the top in a teepee shape, then tie the monstera stem(s) to them, sit back, and watch the fun. Your plant looks like it's ready to take off. When it makes aerial roots, you can guide them, tie them, even pin them into the soil. And you can arrange the heavy stakes to suit yourself; it's just that I find these work better than those heavy moss log things, which are almost impossible to get into the soil.
