I'm not sure where to put this, I found some topics that it seemed to fit but it said I had to pay to be part of it...
But I live in the Northeast (northern VT) Last summer I got the idea of starting trees from seeds, with the idea of keeping them small (maybe stunted, like bonsai?) and in the house. I've never been able to grow anything from seeds before, but kept trying (putting the seeds in wet paper towels in a dark place to germinate first) and ended up with several small trees. some orange and some apple. 3 of the orange ones and 2 of the apple survived over winter (which is strange, the orange trees seem to have done better in northern VT than the apple). Another apple tree I had that was growing good I planted outside at the end of last summer and that is doing good now. I now have 6 baby apple trees, a few inches high from seeds that sprouted this year. I've looked this up online and I know I can't get fruit from apple seeds that's the same as the apple (they came from grocery stores) but I'm more interested in having small (mini) trees, and maybe blossoms in the spring. I've looked this up online and all I find is others asking the same questions (can I grow trees, small size, in the house) and others saying "it can't be done". That trees have to be outside and in their natural climate (aside from my thriving orange trees that were in the house over winter, I have a cold house with a wood stove for heat, but I put them in the sun during the day as much as possible). I found out from experience, the little apple trees can't take too much direct sun and heat. The orange trees are growing quite tall, even though they are in small containers. One of them I have cut the tops off (as it grew) and planted the tops which seem to have started roots, but it leaves blunt cuts on the top of it. Another one I haven't cut is getting quote tall. I'd like to get them to stay shorter and bushier, if possible. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this? If this is a topic anyone knows about and wants to discuss further, I can take pictures to put on...
