LOL! I always tell Todd I hope that Paco goes before I do, as I don't have anyone to leave him with, that will take care of him! Paco hates Andy, my youngest son. Andy will get near the cage, and Paco lunges for him! If Paco gets too loud, I have a plastic squirt bottle I use to calm him down with as he loves to get his showers that way. But every now and then, when I get the bottle out, Paco starts crying like a brand new baby.
She's about to... 69! Spring has sprung!
I went into a pet store and there was a huge blue macaw. He was beautiful and he could mimick my laugh. I was talking to him and he did something and I laughed and then he laughed just like me...too funny, except that when I tried to walk away he laughed and laughed.
The cockatoo at work people try squirting her when she gets on a loud singing (scream) binge. Can't imagine what a flock would sound like...wowzer.
Oh crying like a baby would be so sad.
We have a dog in th yard behind us crying ...we had never heard him cry, but this mournful lowing was more than I could bear. I went around the block last week and put a note on the door asking if he was ok and if I could help somehow. I don't know our neighbors, but we have always seen them playing with the dog and being kind to him.
The woman of th house called me when she got my note. She said their small female dog is in heat, and she has to put the male dog out when they are gone . . . And that is why he is crying like he's at his master's funeral. Thought that was the funniest thing I'd heard in a while. Not so sad any more. ;)
I hope everyone is going to have a great weekend! The last long weekend of the summer... ;( I know lots of people who love fall, but to me it is sad, cause everything will turn brown, and I will eventually be STUCK indoors and have to do all that housework I have put off forever....rofl. Course Linda Kay as hot as you all have been I imagine fall, winter, and spring are nice for you.
REAL LIFE...Anyone have a retired husband? Since I am not retired I feel like the guy who can't find anything in the house! I went to make peach jam and could not find the potato masher...really what do you do with a potato masher except mash potatoes which he doesn't eat, I am guessing it was good for mixing concrete and I don't mean ice cream... So I was mashing peaches with a meat clever....other thoughts went thru my head on other things I could do with the meat clever but I restrained myself.... rofl.
I heard from Debra Joe'es Wife and she asked me to tell you all: tell everyone "I love them and am making it one day at a time".
Debra
I think she had lost us so I am going to dmail her this discussion site.
Hubby is still working here. Maybe 3 years he will retire! Todd is real good and miss placing things, like his tools, and yells at me when he can't find them. No one else uses them!
Joyce, awesome job, practical and pretty too.
Hi dahtzu, thank you. I spent about a year collecting photos and thinking about it hoping I wouldn't make a big mistake. Not quite done I need a walk way and a cover but that is another year...rofl.... Missed you.
Linda Kay, DH use to get after his son for miss placing the tools, son all grown up not living at home now and still tools are missing...rofl. (including a potato masher..rofl) You know when I started the potting bench I happen to go to a garage sale just looking at junk and found some tools so I picked up a hammer, level, and a couple of things and sprayed PINK on them...rofl. Cause I was afraid we would never be able to keep up with the tools cause I do like building things.
I think when I retire we will be ok being home together at least when it is warm enough to go outside because we are always outside but basically right now I have it made at home. He does laundry, wash dishes, vacumns (that was a given when he got an inside dog), and cooks for himself or me, but I usually get home too late. He says the reason I won't retire is I have to take all of that back...rofl. Some truth to that. ;)
Maybe I need to get pink tools!
Hey Faye. Nice to see you. How are you guys doing?
Sears has serious pink tools. Two of my granddaughter wanted and got them for Christmas.
Joyce, awesome job, practical and pretty too.
I agree, it is great. I am glad you got it finished.
My Joe is retiring in about 30 days.. he already cooks, cleans , laundry and stuff.. now for the honey do list.. I am not retiring anytime soon, I really don't think I could stand not being around a hundred people a day, staying at home on Sundays with Joe by ourselves is already challenging enough.. His favorite pastime is watching TV.. I don't enjoy sitting in front of a TV for more than an hour at most.. I am going with him to see his Mom in Buffalo, NY. We leave on Saturday morning, I do not know if she has wireless or not, she is turning 84.. love birds, lizards, snakes and well all critters, just released the two garter snakes we have had for a year or so, released two of the 5 turtles, still have the 5 goldfish that are about big enough to eat, and debating on whether to pitch them into a lake or not.. my grandcat Lincoln is stayong here with his momma Joanna while we are gone, he just got out of the hospital after being in for a week.. he was staying with Rose and her cat Oona, but I told Joanna after spending 1300 on this cat, she can have him here..
Have a good trip Debra. Sorry to hear Loncoln was in the hospital. What happened to him.

Hello to all you sweet ladies. I love keeping up with you in this thread. I don't post much but love when you do. Big hugs to you all.
Ray and are are so blessed. The last report, No more cancer and Ray is so much like his old self again. He still hurts but at least he doesn't worry about the pain being cancer.
Biggggggggg hug to you all
Faye
So glad to hear there is no more cancer.
I reference to the eggs... if momma hen keeps the eggs too long they will hatch. That means more babies...

so ya all have a nice eve I'm going to go lay back.
Oh Faye glad to hear the good news. I imagine pain is alot more tolerable when you know it is just pain!
Debra I am guessing there will be challenging times being together 24 - 7 but I can go upstairs or to the garden room to hide...rofl. I thought maybe Joe was already retired. Is he mentally ready? DH did not have one problem with retiring not one day...rofl. I don't think I will either there are soooo many things I want to do. Now I couldn't just stay home 24 - 7 altho maybe my house and plants would look better. ')
DJ glad you are not closer...rofl, DH really wants some silkies! We have chickens about a year and 1/2 old now but I have never had the cat around them. Doesn't seem to me he would hurt them cause they are so darn big. Those brugs are beautiful! Zoey is so cute, love the pic with her sunflower crown...rofl.
Thank you all for the comments on the potting bench, course the best thing is it works for me.
Anyone know who to report a spam dmail?
Not long ago I sent a dmail to admin to report a problem. Someone in plant tranding when you went to it said he no longer had plants to swap or trade but had a web page to purchase...humm
Anyway they responded to my dmail. I am not one to complain but that just didn't seem right. I don't mind if people sell and I would rather buy from someone on daves but.....not in plant swap and trade.
Edited to say I didn't make that very clear. the dmail addr is just admin

At the very bottom of the screen, when you scroll all the way down, you will see
"Contact Us" if you click on that it will take you where you need to be to report that sort of info.

Hi you all,

http://davesgarden.com/contest/daves-garden-county-fair-2013/
Daves Garden country fair is open!
Are you entering anything?
I am a horrible picture taker, I am sure it is the camera and not me...rofl.
Course both cameras have had the same problem....hummm
I have this pot full of succulants and it was a pretty tall pot and I thought well those succulants don't need that much soil, so like I have read so many times, fill the bottom up with something, so I did. Plastic Pop bottles mostly I think. Funniest thing I noticed some succulants sort of heaved up so I went to push them back down and there was a round hole, course like any stupid "b" movie idiot woman that we all scream at, "don't do it!" I stuck my finger in the hole and it went way down into the pot without any resistance, until the light came on, there might really be something down that hole so get your finger out of the hole!
So I might really have a great photo for the fair, or the funniest video to be shown on YouTube when I go to move these succulants into a shallower pot and find a snake living in there! I am really sort of freaked out about this, but I sure can't take the pot indoors until I figure out what keeps making that hole when I fill it back in.....YUCK! Probably mouse right, not my idea of a good time but a WHOLE lot better than a snake........
You could dunk the pot in a large tub of water. And stand back a ways. kb
It might be a frog.
I Dumped a pot one day & Found a 6" Long Black Salamander SO MAYBE :) If your Lucky
But I Also WOULD Do The Soaking
Several swaps are open, come and check them out!

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1331435/
Drum roll please, I think I got a thimble full of rain this morning..... ;( But we are cooling down. Boy Linda Kay I know you have been going thru this for sometime, but it is so darn sad watching everything burn up. If I would get an inch or so the daylilies might make it but if we don't very soon I hope the roots are really strong cause I have very little green left, maybe 2 or 3 leaves on some of them.
DH is about to get the chicken duck run complete! Finally, it was that or we were going to be eating alot of chicken and duck cause they have destroyed several plants. Wish they would just work on the grasshoppers and stop that stupid scratching. The run looks really nice, he has done a great job.
Someone is dumping broken concrete on the edge of a creek close to the house. Thinking about taking some and putting it in front of my potting bench for a walkway. I have seen pic where people of done whole patios like that and I thought they looked pretty nice. Price is right...rofl.
Hey Debra, have you started bringing in things yet? I am getting serious this weekend about getting things ready. Middle of Sept so it won't be long before the temps start dropping even tho we are hitting 90 today. Mom Nature is trying to make me feel relaxed so she can sneak up on me! ')
Anyone thought about doing a wall garden? Or is anyone doing one, I may have figured out how to do it at a reasonable price.
Wall garden? Like with pallets?
Yep, exactly, except I was helping DH and he had these storage bins and I thought they resembled this hanging wall unit.
I just don't know the ins or outs of a hanging garden but would be fun to try in the garden room this winter. Might go check and around the forums and see what I can find.
Hey Debra this is something you might like, you have all these cool ways to hang plants and such.
I found this in the first pic but think I can replicate it for 9.99 in the second photo. Now I would have to do a little adapting but might be worth a try. You can get all of the bins plus metal to hang them with from Habor Freight. If you don't have a store you can order them online for 9.99. I might spray paint them green to help hide them.
Only thing I have heard is not to plant edibles. Some if the pallets contain chemicals that are not good for yiu.
True that about the wood and edibles. Same as buckets or rain gutter gardens, etc.
Hap, if someone is dumping in the stream illegally I would make a phone call to the municipality stormwater division after you've collected enough for your project.
Out here in the country I am glad the only thing they are dumping is concrete. There is no municipality stormwater division...
Linda Kay I read up on pallets and they are all marked so you can tell if they are heat treated or chemically treated. Guess the other problem is you don't know what has been sitting on them or even spilled on them.
I read up on pvc that you get at home depot and stuff when I was doing my tomatoe test. That was really interesting. It is amazing how we can keep poisoning ourselves...geehz.
Have you all heard the US is going to let china start exporting chickens meat to us....really the poor Chinese people don't want to eat their food so we are going to import it. Please read and give to your friends.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/31/business/chinese-chicken-processors-are-cleared-to-ship-to-us.html?_r=0
That is pretty sad!
boy what a wonderful idea, Joyce. Love it. I have some pics from buffalo to show you.. first my MIL's gardens, she is 84 now, and her son brings these plants all in, ( the tropicals and begonias are really old) her hanging baskets are everywhere, I had to trim them up for her while I was there..
I also tore out a lot of that ground eating ivy..
this is just a few of her plants, most of the ones I tried to upload turned sideways, so I had to take them off..I mailed my self a box of her cuttings and got some potted up already, they were here on the MOnday after we got home. I asked her if she used any bug spray befor bringing them in, she said oh, I just spray for spiders with raid.. I was like really? no gnats or bugs? She said she has never had anything like that.
