Asiatic Lilium
Glorious May Blooms
drthor, the day lillies look lovely. I love the close up of the sunflower.
Hope my sunflowers get enuff water to make it. They tried to grow too tall too fast!
These haven't had any supplemental watering. I didn't even know they were there until about 3 days ago.
Love that purple datura, what pretty color.
I love it too, so nice.
I love that purple Datura! Wish I had the room for one in my flowerbed. Stephanie, I planted a few Mammoth Sunflowers ... but the birds planted twice as many as I did. I have assorted types of sunflowers growing all over the place. It's a good spring for them this year.

That is what I did yesterday ... ooouch I cannot feel anything in my body ... my arms !
All of those shrubs were behind that bed. Tall to those little windows !!
Today was green bulk pick up/day and ... they didn't pick all of that up !!! grrrrr ...
Now I have to wait until Tuesday. My husband is worry that the grass will dye !
I told him that nothing can kill Bermuda grass !!
You will have more next year. I have tried the seed in pots and just sowing in beds in the fall and both work very well.
Dr, I wish I had anoles in my yard but all I get is geckos (not even native).

My lizard population is up dramatically since we moved in 10 years ago: anoles, geckos, skinks, and Texas spiny lizards but our toad population seems to have plummeted. We used to see dozens of toads hanging out under the street light waiting for a snack, but I haven't seen that happen in the past few years. At least the tree frogs still seem to be around, so we still have some amphibians.
You are welcome Stephanie, I am glad it is doing well.
Odd as I have noticed a decrease in toads here as well. I think amphibians are having problems world wide, maybe the poor toads are part of that in some way. I have never seen an anole in my yard. Now I am just jealous. Wonder how much it would cost to buy a dozen and release them...

I just love see the native plants, they're so pretty. Amphibians and reptiles are doing great here. I saw a lizard today and yesterday that I've never seen before. It's small, tan with spots and a curled tail. I've seen 2 in the feed room along with a large rat snake.
Millions of lizards and geckos here too.
Milkweed is blooming here too.
very nice !
I am really enjoying the rain this year !!
Loving these pictures!! i've had so many new ones this week. but my pics don't do them justice.
Knockout roses, Magnolia, Gardenia, dwarf Pomegranate, Rose of Sharon, dwarf Ruellia, Shrimp plant, Salvia 'Hot Lips', Cardinal Climber, Coral Bells, Coral Bean, Mexican Bush Sage, and my Aloe is about to bloom (Soap Aloe about done).
all in all, i'm tickled. first year i've really planted any petunias, and i couldn't be more pleased. they have been consistently bright and beautiful, even with the rest of the garden was green and brown.
we normally see a lot of lizards here, as well as toads and tree frogs. i had geckos when i lived in Benbrook--loved them!
fortunate enough to see a few lady bugs and praying mantis this year too.
i think a lot of it for us is that we have had a slower start to full blown summer here. not saying that too loud, but thankful for 80s this late in the year!!
we only got rain once this week, but according to our local news station's weather guys, we are NOT in the midst of drought now, and the forecast is for improvement for at least the east 2/3 of the state. feel very fortunate.
Anoles eat my spiders, wasps, so far havent noticed em munching on butterflies. They grow to 12" if lucky enough to avoid the birds, then there are skinks. Even saw a south Tx water dragon once. He declined to be caught tho. Geckos not too many.
Cool! i didn't realize they ate wasps too! that's great! i heard we're expecting more than usual this year. i'm going to try making a wasp trap too.
also didn't realize the birds ate the lizards ;-(
we do have skinks here too. I've never seen a water dragon before. had to look it up. those are VERY cool! do they live around us?
I have anoles for sure and some brown lizard shaped things and some black lizard shaped things and some skinks. Ive been told the brown ones are geckos and the black ones just look like a darker form of the brown ones. I have a lot more of the black and brown ones than I do of the green anoles but it was not always this way. I think the brown and black ones are outcompeting the green anoles. Anyone know what I could do to rectify that situation?
Green anoles can turn brown, they can change their coloration to match their backgrounds:
Often seen in parks and residential areas on walls, fences, trees, and low bushes, green anoles reach a maximum length of six to eight inches. Their bodies are slender, with a long, thin tail. Like true chameleons, green anoles have the ability to change color; this ability is limited in anoles, however--coloration is usually green, yellow, brown, gray, or a mixture. Most healthy, non-threatened anoles are bright green in appearance. The male anole has a large pink fan of skin on its neck, called a dewlap, which can be extended for courtship or territorial display.
Well, I just happened to spot two anoles mating on my kitchen window shelf, very cute, they stayed there for a long time and he had her by the skin of the neck. I had never seen them mating before, We do have a lot of anoles, they go around inflating that pink sack quite often.
Now I feel anole deprived for sure.
They like a humid atmosphere, takes horny toads for desert gardens.
I live in the same place as joe and she has them.
Drthor, are your hydrangeas in the sun or shade? What variety? They are beautiful.
Apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures. i think i'm going to have to switch from my phone to my camera. i'm not happy with the phone's camera for garden pics. Anyway:
Magnolia
Shrimp
Cute little Japanese eggplant (one of four--i'm so tickled!) ~ hey it WAS a bloom =)
Coral Bean
Anole ;-)
The coralbean is so pretty.
