I am in Maine - zone 5a - and just received my flower seeds.
I am thinking of starting them in solo cups. Then wondered about setting them in the garden area until they are ready to transplant, sometime in the next 2 weeks if the weather warms.
Any advice? Should this work ok?
I have a large area to put the flowers and it is pretty weedy. I thought maybe keeping it in the solo cup for a bit would help. (This is not my flower garden but an area I am trying to fill with perennials)
Starting Seeds
The soundness of your plan depends on what seeds you ordered (whether they need stratification or not). Could you please list what you ordered? Yes, keeping them in separate pots until they have reached a reasonable size is a good idea. I don't know what "solo cups" are (paper cups??*) but any 4" pots you have around or other reasonably-sized pots would work fine, and reduce the need to transplant them to larger pots. If the seeds you ordered are quite large then it may work to plant one seed per pot; seeds are often finer than that though, and realistically, it may not be possible to avoid transplanting to separate numerous seedlings that have germinated in the same pot.
P. S. If "solo cups" are paper cups, it would not be a good idea to use them - use plastic or clay or whatever other pots you may have around instead. Paper falls apart with moisture.
I use solo cups all the time for seeding starting and use "Glad press and seal" to create my own little green houses
