Purchased from Logee's Yes, it's growing. Yes, it has produced one little pink "chenille"--problem is that the new growth looks chlorotic. It's in Miracle Gro potting soil and is being fertilized with Miracle Grow Liquid Houseplant Food. I am now putting it outside on nice days for extra sunlight. It also seems a little leggy. More light? All advice appreciated. I'm not a new gardener but I am new to this particular plant.
Chenille Plant/Strawberry Trails
OK to pinch it back to try to get some more branching where it is getting leggy.
Increase the light in slow stages. Do not simply move it into lots of sun. If you have dappled light under a tree, try that. Or the milder sun of the morning or evening.
Read the label on the plant food. Look for
N (Nitrogen)
P (Phosphate)
K (Potassium)
and trace minerals like iron and many others.
You might need to rotate fertilizers. Some have everything, and are pretty complete. Others lack something.
This plant seems to enjoy a good dose of iron from time to time as do a couple other plants I have. So I keep a milk jug of it mixed up and ready to go. Easy fix!
Did the soil have fertilizer in it? If so, adding more could be way too much. When I had one of these before, it thrived outside with lots of light, baking dry every day or two. It died when I brought it in, low light, constantly moist. Does the pot have a drain hole?
