I have a wisteria that needs repotting this yr. but I'm not sure of the best time to do this. Should I wait till it has flowered or is it ok to do now? I live in a zone 8 and the wisteria is about 6 yrs old been in the same 15 gal pot for 3 yrs. Its a vine type so I plan on leaving it on the trellis, pull the stand out from under the pot (after loosening the soil around the pot), drop the pot rake out the roots prune them then refill the pot.
Repotting Wisteria, Best time?
Perfect time to repot
If your Wisteria is showing signs of flowering heads or will be next few weeks then I would leave off re-potting till after flowering and do this job when it's time to tidy /prune the plant, Here in UK that's about July / August time, after moving the plant into larger pot no matter when you do it, give the new soil a handful of feed (multi Purpose or even a Rose feed would do) I like to add a mix of blood /fish/ bone meal as this is a slow release feed.
Make sure you add grit or gravel to the bottom of the larger pot as this will help drainage, these plants are greedy feeders and like a good load of animal manure added to the soil as this helps air into the soil yet keep moisture in longer but allows good drainage.
Hope this helps you a little, Good luck and best regards. WeeNel.
