trunk protection for new dwarf fruit trees

Cochranton, PA

I just ordered half a dozen bare root fruit trees (2 apples, 2 pears, a peach and an apricot). They will arrive in about 3 weeks. We live at the edge of a wooded area with mice, shrews, a few rabbits & deer. I am going to put up welded wire circular cages around each tree to keep the deer & rabbits away, but I don't know what to use on the trunk to protect against mice. Any suggestions?

Greetings, I use that black, flexable pipe that is used for leach lines. you can cut it with a box cutter. Cut to the length you want, high enough, say , to keep out rabbits, than split it up the side, and put it around the trunk .

Once I began doing this, I no longer use chicken wire. I drive a 3/4" PVC pipe on ether side to tie and support the tree.

There is a drain pipe that is flexible, as described, but white on the outside. Won't cook the trunk like the black might.

Thanks for both of your suggestions!
