Ten-year-old persimmon trees. 2, in my yard

Hopewell, PA

Would someone please tell me why they won't set fruit ? One has never bloomed, I cut surrounding trees to give it more light & it filled out but still no blossoms. The other gets loaded with blossoms,& bees, then all the blooms fall off. I've been mulching them with sawdust/bark from around the woodsplitter for years now. Might they have too much acid ? There is another one,50-60' tall, 2mi. from me that bears every year & has others growing wild nearby in a fencerow. This one is in a yard, never mulched, pruned or anything. If these are never going to bear fruit I may as well cut them down. They are about 20-25' tall & 4-5" in dia. If you can tell me what to do I'd really be grateful.

There are a few possibilities, but I do not know for sure. Do you know what varieties they are?

1) Perhaps the one that never blooms needs more chilling hours than it is getting in your garden. It might be a different variety than the one that flowers reliably.

2) Perhaps the one down the street and yours (the one that flowers) are incompatible as pollinators, so yours does not set fruit.

3) Maybe the fruit sets too early in the year and gets frozen, so the tree aborts it.

4) Perhaps there is a problem with the sawdust. Best way to tell is to have a good quality soil test done. What species of wood are you getting the sawdust & bark from?
