I sowed okra seeds in peat pots about 8 weeks before the last day of frost . Will the seedlings be fine by that time to put them outdoors in the garden.

Okra need warm soil to get good results, I just started mine in January, and I may have been too early, even for Central Texas. Our expected last frost date for the area is March 8th, which may be true, but the soil will still be too cold for good okra growth. A second germination tray was started about 2 weeks ago, and those will probably be the ones going into the garden. The first seeds have already been potted up and are about 8" tall. Some say that's too big to transplant, so I will find out for sure. My stuff is going into aeration containers, so they will warm up a little quicker than a raised bed or in the ground. Plus they're easier to move if we get some cold weather.

Try Cornell University Extension for information on growing Okra in your area. Look for recommended varieties and don't start seeds too early or the plants will just "stunt". I soak the seeds overnight in warm water before seeding in individual paper pots that go into the garden or container (see YouTube videos for instructions) - Okra resents root disturbance and I resent peat pots!

Okra likes the soil at about 86* for the best germination and growth.
