Patti i think you are in for some snow tomorrow....................
Weather In Your Garden # 128
I know. We just got a severe storm warning on DH's iPhone app. I hope I can get some work done again tomorrow. Patti
it is for saturday night late you should be good for tomorrow
If I can move. Did too much today. Out of garden shape. Patti
Reached 50, even in the icebox known as Goshen....stayed outside with Grant for over an hour. Not much snow forecast for my area, hoping it doesn't change.....
we had freezing rain last night.. the deck is frozen solid .. says our high for today is 36
It's 32 high of 34 today. Snow today into tomorrow.
Hoar frost on the grass this morning with a huge ominous front out to the north which foretells of storm coming tonight. Expecting 4 to 8 with gust to 50 mph. Out to prune and drag the big downed pine logs to our newly started, as of yesterday, burn pile. We have a good stash of of all our prunings from last year as well as a good bit of of stuff that I am eying that I want to take down that will help fuel a good winter fire sometime in March. All that will have to get dragged from it's hiding spot to the middle of the front yard. We have 2 cedars with severe damage from the last storm to clean up today too. While typing this post it has suddenly gone quite dark outside. Not looking like a good day to work outside, but birds are singing. Yes singing. Patti
I noticed a lot of singing the past few days....nothing this morning though, as another 2" has dropped on us....we are not expected to get anything tonight, only east of the CT River....that's what I'm hoping for, anyway....
24 and sunny
39° & overcast. Snowed the most of the morning, but did not stick. I wonder if we will get this afternoon's predicted storm, or that was it. Melting going on & can finally see the tops of 3 of our 4 whiskey barrels.
Wha, nice shots. Waiting for our storm that seems to be getting bigger according to the weatherman. But what do they know?
Funny day, started nice then a front came in with cold air which made me think I was done for the day, then it cleared and sun came out for a while so I soldiered on with my pruning and some raking. Then it got cold again around 2:45 so I quite. I really attacked the Buddleja and the Vitex, but trimmed some Viburnums, Lespedeza, Hypericum, Bayberry, Blueberries, and a bunch of who knows what bushes.
Just got another weather alert. we shall see. Patti
There is the potential for heavy snow along with strong winds across the far southeast New England coast tonight into early Sunday afternoon.
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 pm this evening to 7 pm EST Sunday.
Locations: Cape Cod and Nantucket.
Hazard types: Heavy snow and strong winds.
Accumulations: snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches.
Timing: A mixture of light rain and snow is expected to develop today. Little if any accumulation is expected through this evening. Any precipitation should changeover to snow around midnight tonight. The snow may fall heavily for a time from after midnight through midday Sunday.
Impacts: untreated roads and walkways will become snow covered. Strong winds will develop after midnight and continue through Sunday. This may result in poor visibilities and perhaps near Whiteout conditions for a time. In addition, the initially wet snow combined with the wind could result in some downed tree limbs and a few power outages.
Winds: north 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
Temperatures: around 30.
Visibilities: one quarter to one half mile at times.
heavy snow is not good - quick question, why trim vib's now won't you be cutting off the flower heads?
Wha, I have made that mistake before, but this time I am not pruning tips, just crossed branches and around the base and any suckers and damaged branches or any place that they need thinning. Trying to clean up some of our Japanese maples too. That job scares me. But I am trying to do them slowly so I don't over prune them or give them a Mohawk. I do love being out in the winter in the garden, almost best of all. Patti
Stay safe all of you impacted by this latest storm.....predictions are for a "coating" here.....keeping fingers crossed.
windy today.. 30 now.. high of 30... think the computer is wrong
29 with light snow falling and blowing a steady 20 to 30 with a few gust that have been more like 40. Only an inch on the ground so far. Birds are all chomping down on the extra seed we put out for them. No pruning today. Patti
It's 18, snowing with NNW winds @ 25 - 35 mph, gust reaching 50. If I don't loose power today it will be a miracle.
We got about 4-5 inches of light fluffy snow
Hoping for a miracle for you and everyone else too. Patti
I am entranced by Bill's red branches peaking out from the snow. Good sales job for JMs.
We have the same appearance here too, (the snow I mean). 19F and several inches of snow overnight. Just this hour it has started to blow so the snow is in the air now.
thx rosemary - they are redder in real life as those shots were taken from the safety of doorways with a telephoto lense.
very windy here and cold - will be heading out xcountry skiing soon.
Very windy and cold here too.
snow started this morning, about a couple new inches & strong winds blowing it around.
Not a flake, thank you God! Windy & 25.....only 20 at the farm, Garret had both fireplaces going, the kids, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 were all well behaved....fun day.
Robindog, OMG, sounds like you could have had a tornado at your house. We have had wind, but not a lot of snow. It looks like less than 3", but most of what came down just blew away with the steady 30MPH winds. Patti
Super windy here, no precip of any kind
we were supposed to go snow tubing in the Poconos, so glad we didn't go, that wind is NUTS
31°
tonight's low 14°!!!!!!!!!!!
23° at the moment. We had a bit over 2" of snow. windy, changing to high winds at the moment.
Nice. The storm must be over on the Cape then. Here the roads are pretty bad and more snow is expected overnight, lots of wind.
I got about the same as Patti....maybe 4" of snow but the winds were WICKED!! All day yesterday and still howling some now. We hunkered down and did some tie dyeing for fun. ^_^
At 12 now, winds have dropped some, down to 20 - 25 mph out of the WNW high of 27 today.

12* here too Celest.I'm wearing my fleece PJ's all day.
It will rain tomorrow with temps over 40.
It's 12 here also, still windy, but no trees are down.....yes, rain here tomorrow as well.....nice mess with snow still on my roof.....
19° & sunny wind has dropped, but I can still hear it occasionally. counted birds over the weekend.
Not so cold here. 23 with wind at about a steady 30mph with constant gusts to 40mph and a few hitting about 50 so boats are cancelled again. Not sure about planes, but just heard one. I wouldn't want to be flying today. DH scrapped all the snow off the green house this morning, so it is now a nice 78 in there. guess where i am spending the day. Patti
26, going up to 44.
Went out to dig horseradish. Ground only frozen on top, but didn't find any big fat roots, so what I dug may be too woody. Do have a bunch we put up in the fall for tonight's Xmas dinner party with a friend who we just haven't gotten together with yet for our annual party. His birthday is in early March so I re-wrapped a couple of his gifts with birthday paper. Early and Late Party.
Wind is calming down. Temp is now 28 and wind at around 20mph. Sunny day.
temp up to 30° still some wind gusts
Thirty here as well, sun was nice for this afternoon's walk.....Good idea about the gifts, Patti.....
