Continued Support for Becky as she's Alabama bound

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Becky, I saw a stunning piece of black coral at the Shell Factory yesterday that would look great in an Alcove like that! "Only" $2399, LOL, but I remember thinking at the time that you'd pay more for a good bronze if you had a place (and budget) for one. Put a vase of pussy willow branches or some such in there for now, and you'll find the perfect thing eventually (or the perfect vase for the "bouquet of the week" from your yard-en!).

Ditto what Ruby & Gita said about being willing to travel to Alabama, now that you'll be there!

Heck, for you I might even be willing to get a Facebook account, to keep up with you there. :-)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

AWWWW.. What friend's will do for friends!!!!!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I like that, Jill!!!

We'll have more than enough room for travelers, so whomever wants to visit us in the south for a few days or just driving through - come on down :) Jill, I'll get right on that piece of coral, sounds like it's stunning and SO in my price range ;) Giggle :)

I'm just about starting on getting ready for the 'big move' - I started some laundry :) I'll be packing enough clothes for a week, my laptop and some bedding/airmattress & the movers can do the rest - I'll just have to trust the moving company won't break or destroy our stuff - I did pack a few breakables, not sure I'll be able to fit the 2 boxes in my trunk tho - I'll have half the backseat for some stuff - my niece is coming over on Thursday to help...she can help me carry and pack in car - I'll be on my neighbors couch the last nite, the house will be totally empty (unless I blow up the mattress) - 'the kids' are having 'a 2 nites sleep-over' at the vets, they'll just be in the way and the kittens will be terrified of the movers - a cleaning crew is coming in on Thursday afternoon and getting it ready to hand over to new owner :)

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh my - I went to IKEA and bought enough bed/linens to furnish a hotel!! With only having linens for our King size beds and an old set for a queen I knew I needed to furnish the 2 spare rooms

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Woohoo!!! Shopping for house goodies.

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

You have to love IKEA. There is one in College Park and gets visited often!!!

Glad to hear you are settling in.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I picked up some bed linens from Ikea the last time I was there. They were very reasonably priced and I just love them. I've spent a lot more on sheets that weren't near as nice. Oh Beck, I could easily fill those nice nooks of yours. I visited HomeGoods today and they have some really beautiful big things that would set in those spaces of yours for a reasonable price. One was a large waist high fountain pot the kind where the water cascades over and falls into groves cut in the pot.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Yes, HomeGoods is on my list to look for tall vases, statues etc :)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee. We know all the good places!!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

The only Home Goods store I know of here is about 10 miles away.

Bummer!! Or--maybe a BLESSING....? G.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

? 10 miles away is too far? I guess I really did grow up "in the sticks" -- if I can get there in 20 minutes, it's "pretty close." LOL

Good to know the guest rooms will be furnished. *bat eyes* I'm glad you had a fun linens "spree!" Bet you got a lot more ideas at Ikea, too. :-)

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Critter, I'm thrilled if it is "only" 10 miles away. I drove 16 miles each way to work and still have to go that far for most shopping and errands.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I know--I "get it" that all you more suburban people think 10 miles is nothing.

However--I have everything in the World close-by here--great are to live in.

Six grocery stores--White Marsh Mall--Ikea--Wallmart--HD--Lowes--a zillion
Restaurants (I do not frequent)--all 3 schools on my street--everything no more than 3-4 miles....
A BIG Hospital complex (Feanklin Square)--all my Dr.s--2 Nurseries--etc...

So--driving 10 miles on I-95 to go shopping seems "far" to me. Not a pleasant drive !
IF I ever go that-a-way--I also hit "Gabriel Brothers"--an el-cheapo junky store...Good $$$.

Gita

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I can't help but giggle at thinking 10 miles is a long drive - living so close to DC everything is a long drive and with traffic even more so - AL will be a refreshing change, when it's 10 miles, it's 10 minutes drive :) I was driving nearly every week to Bethesda, 40 mile one way - took anything from 45 minutes to 3 hrs :)

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I agree Gita, There are a lot of nice things about living in close to everything. I grew up in the city of Harrisburg and we walked everywhere we wanted to go. Maybe grabbed a bus on occasion but mostly just walked.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Such different perspectives - I'm in the group that travels to work, 60+ miles each way every day, and live out in the country where everything but a corner gas station is 20 minutes away. I often wonder what it would be like to have everything within 10 miles or walking distance - have never experienced it.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Well--
I-95 is 2 mi. from my house. IKEA--1 mile. How fortunate we are. There is only one other in this area.

The big Hospital complex--is 5 miles.
3 of the 6 grocery stores are 1 mi. from my house--another 2 are 2 miles.

The BIG White Marsh Mall--is 1 mile. A bit more if you drive all around it.
My work is 4 1/2 miles from home. Ten minutes drive...

What can I say! I am spoiled. Gita

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

Oh Becky
Is the Hot Dog stand that looked like a big Teepee still in Huntsville? We always stopped and got hot dogs on the way to and from Boaz.
I was raised on the Georgia Alabama line Dad's barn was in Muscadine Alabama and our house in Tallapoosa Georgia.
Mom still lives in Tallapoosa and I was in Anniston in March.

Becky, Of course we are all waiting of news that your move went well and any inevitable adventures along the way. Prayers going up that Alabama eases your transition with big loving spoonfuls of Southern Hospitality and continuity of care. Check in when you can and feel up to it.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Did you feel all of us waving and hear us shouting Bon Voyage!! as you drove off?

I hope you and Greg had a relaxing evening Friday before the trip down on the weekend. Did the four-feets behave?

I do know everything went well for Becky Friday morning -- key hand-off, breakfast with the realtor and a few other goodbyes. We chatted when she had settled into the hotel near Dulles. She and I were trying to cross paths that afternoon, but she called when I was just underway to tell me Greg's flight had been cancelled (bad), but she'd gotten him onto an earlier nonstop flight (good). I'm sorry I didn't get to deliver loads of hugs, but I'm glad she had a couple extra hours Friday evening with her DH!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Greetings from Alabama!!

What a day!!! It's been balls to the walls since 7:30 AM - bought a house, moved in, no furniture, so lunch was sitting on the counter enjoying my first Schlotzsky's sandwich in 10 years...then the non-stop running around started - needed food, cleaning supplies, something to sit on and something to eat off of...we finally stopped around 9 PM, and the jacuzzi soaking tub was worth the price of admission!!! LOVE the house, it's so much more than I expected and so is Huntsville - totally different than I imagined...very sprawled out, very green (also very flooded from the torrential downpour for the last 2 days)! The "kids" are busy exploring the house and it's fabulous for NasCat races!!! No furniture to slow them down! :) We got our Internet installed today, tomorrow Directv (and a whole bunch of other stuff) - our goal is to be somewhat settled in a month...all depending on how I feel - nothing is a race, we're taking our time and once we get our furniture it'll feel like a "proper" house - right now I'm sitting on a folding lawn chair :) Should get our household good on Wednesday, meet my new doc on the 9th - I'm assuming I'll start treatments the week after...

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Go, Becky, Go!

I'm glad you're not feeling like it's a race to get settled in, despite the initial pace you set today. Keep some of that energy in reserve, in case you need it. I know you and Greg have your priorities straight -- health first! Hoping your new medical team will be every bit as good as you're expecting and then some. :-)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Amen to what critter said!!!

Glad you love your new digs and the kids are settling in nicely. Hooray for soaking tubs!!!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

What a fun exciting event!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Becky, so great to hear about your new house and new town adventure. Way to go!

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Finally catching up here, what with school and a trillion other things. Wow Becky, what a GREAT house!!! I'm so glad you guys got there safe and sound and found such a wonderful place. Tomorrow is "meet the Dr." day... how are you feeling?

Really looking forward to hearing great medical reports, and seeing photo updates as you plant and enjoy the great green outdoors! =)

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Doing great - it's been non-stop since last week, but we're getting there - the movers will be here today so we'll have furniture!

Yes, tomorrow is meet the new docs day - I feel ok, tired, don't have as much strength as I would like...but, trying to pace myself as much as possible :)

Spent half the day yesterday ordering new stuff of "must haves" for the house - let the deliveries begin!! :)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Woohoo!!! They'll be lining up waiting to drop off goodies!! How exciting!

Praying the first meeting of said new docs goes well.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

How much fun all new stuff. I had a friend years ago that sold everything single thing in her old house and bought all new stuff for the new house. Everything from the furniture to the little kitchen tools. LOL

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I am so happy for you and your hubby Bec! I wish the best for you in your new home, and with your treatment!

Karen

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Prayers for a positive and "clicking"-good first "meet the doctors" visit day today!!!

Oh man, the UPS and Fed-Ex guys are really gonna get to be good friends of y'all's, I can see it now! (had to add the word "y'all's" to the DG dictionary, too funny! Don't they know that it means "belonging to you plural"??) At some point you can just leave out a little 'Thank You' table for the delivery guys by the front door with pitcher of sweet tea and a plate of cookies. Ha!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Becky, I need your address, please...

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Hey all - met my docs and team here today and I love them already - it's a beautiful center and people are beyond nice, which seems to be the general impression I have of everyone I have met so far...we got our furniture and household goods, so we have a bed to sleep in - located some plates and silverware so we could actually eat off of normal plates and not plastic :) Got a few boxes unpacked, we're taking one room at the time - Greg unpacks, I supervise - I'm loving this arrangement :)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Geeze, who wouldn't be tired with a big move??
Sure happy to hear YOU"RE happy!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That is WONDERFUL news!!!!

A bed and real plates couldn't be any better. Glad to hear you are listening to your body and taking it one room at a time.

Looking forward to more relocation stories

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I've decided to satisfy my "need for plants and flowers" by hanging some ferns/baskets, buying some big planters and fill with summer flowers - there is an Old Time Pottery store here and I know they have huge planters - today is yet another big day, built-in closets and Greg's monster TV is being installed - me, I'm back to work, which I intend to do for as long as I possibly can

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Figured I'd give y'all a health update, as I am sitting here at 3:40 AM, just finished a job and trying to get sleepy enough to head to bed - still love my docs and center, had an MRI which was clean, no tumors, no spreading - so, we discussed it and he's decided I was "undertreated" by Reed and wants to attack this very aggressively to prevent a recurrence and get 100% clean margins - surgery is scheduled for June 19th, complete removal of all lymphnodes in groin areas and I'll spend 4-6 weeks recuperating (it'll be a tough recovery) & then onto radiation/chemo to kill of any wayward little bastards that might want to spread to other places, he's opting to keep an eye on the liver for now - instead of going by last MRI from Reed, he wants to go by the biopsies that originally showed no cancer...I know it'll be tough, but this is the best solution and by removing everything he can, it'll also cause less radiation damage to the pelvic area since there will be no Brachy-therapy (internal) only external radiation

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Sounds like a rough road Beck, Hope you soon get past it and on to smoother terrain.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

June 19 th on my calendar. Already praying for the surgeon's hands and his team. Thankful you feel secure in him and his plan of attack. Big hugs, dear, as you begin this next step.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Praying here, too. Please discuss lymphedema with him, maybe get an opinion from your doctor at Reed on this approach also... I'm all for reducing your chances of recurrence, but those lymph nodes are a major drainage/collection point... You know I've had a good bit of annoyance from disrupting the lymph nodes under one arm, but that just affects that arm. I know you (and we!) want to see every bit of it gone from your body, but the "cons" of this approach could be more than just the rough recovery. If it's your surgical oncologist recommending this approach, talk to the oncologists who will be your chemo or radiation docs, also... you know, the whole "if you only have a hammer, you see every problem as a nail" thing.
