-2 at 8 this morning. But sunny and dry so I went for a walk.
I had to check on the place where a lady ran off our road near our barn last night. She pounded on my door at about 10:30 as my lights were on as I was still up watching the tennis and working on my garden journal. She was freaked out as she said her car was totaled and in the snowbank. She said that her air bags had gone off, but she wasn't hurt just very upset as it is her only car and she has no money.
I made her a cup of tea while she called her family who happen to own a tow truck and auto repair shop about 10 miles away in Putney Vt, but she thinks the car is beyond repair. She is a part time aid for a really nice elderly man who lives a 1/4 mile down the road. She said she was going too fast trying to get home after work. The speed is posted at 25, but I assume she was doing 40. This morning I could see her tire marks and it appeared that she never braked and just drove off the road on a gentle curve. The car just missed going into a big ditch full of running water that would have no doubt cause her personal injury and she also just missed a sizable tree, but she didn't go far enough into the woods to end up in the icy Brook. There are lots of broken car bits in the woods now. Her son arrived and lifted the car onto a flat bed, but it took a while. Poor thing. Patti
Patti, you were her angel last night....right place, right time!
no kidding.. how terrible
She wasn't dressed for the weather so it was a good thing that she didn't have to walk far, However the road was mostly clear of snow as was our driveway so her lack of boots wasn't a big issue for her, but it sure could have been if she had had to trudge through some heavy snow. She did have to get out of the car in a big snow pile. Plus her cell phone wouldn't work on our road which freaked her out. I have no car up here so I couldn't drive her home or to the hospital if she had needed up, but I could have roused my neighbors if needed. Our local fire station is 2 blocks away so I could get help quickly if needed. We have a land line as my cell phone service is also spotty up here, so we called her family on that line. But driving around up here with only a light coat, no hat, or gloves makes very little sense. We keep extra warm stuff in the car in the winter just in case we were to get stuck, including a pillow and blankets and usually two dogs for extra warmth. And to think she was born up here. Patti
Wow.
9 out there now
well that'll teach her to do the speed limit
13° warmer tomorrow? the prediction is only a couple of degrees.
10 now going to 26.. for some reason I had it in my head that today was the last day for this non sense.. not realizing we had a few more days yet :(
We are @ 3 degree's with an 9mph wind = negative 13
High for today is 13 above....I'll take it!!!
10 now, we are supposed to get up to the 40 and 50's Mon and Tues.
9° partly cloudy Supposed to reach 22° Last night's wind has died down.
A mid 13 this morning! Will warm up each day.
