This is the longest part of the winter.
Weather In Your Garden # 125
18.
15° & sunny.
12....too cold to walk just yet...even the birds aren't feeding....
26° here
kiddies back to school
was 6 and it has jumped to 12!
10 and sunny
Back from my walk. Cold, but with no wind, not so bad. Up to 23 now.
Venturing out for the first time since Dec 23rd. Cold in Vt. It was 8 at 8:00 am. Not sure it has warmed up much since. Gray day.
Heading south today to drop DH and dogs off so they can get back to Nantucket. Plants in the GH need water. Hope they didn't freeze while we have been gone and didn't have the wood stove going at night which dumps excess heat into the GH. We shall see.
I am going to Boston to dog sit for family as promised months ago. I still don't feel great, but dogs are wonderful and the bed there is comfortable so I can continue to recover there just fine. I may get to the pottery studio if I feel like I won't infect the place. Hoping it isn't bone chilling cold when I am there as those dogs have to be walked. But from looking at all the reports around Boston, I am going to be cold. Patti
Take good care of yourself Patti.
Up to 28° here, but I still feel cold. 2 female cardinals picking up spilled seed from the feeder. I didn't realize that there was a 2nd one around.
Temp was 24 on the dam but with a sharp wind....I don't envy you walking in Boston, Patti.....stay well.
We got up to 17, now @ 9 but wind is 19mph so that drops us to approx. -8. Weatherman says -10 to -15 tonight , people need to get to the shelters as they are filling up fast. My heart just aches at the thought of the homeless out in this kinda of weather. :(
Feel better, Patti!
Supposed to drop to 15 overnight!
Brrrr! Hate this cold weather. I think the high was 29 today, with a cold breeze. Supposed to be colder tomorrow.
Karen
Thanks all. Got to Boston, actually Brookline, tonight and it is cold but didn't look at a thermometer. I stayed outside just long enough unpack a few things from the car and to bring my suitcase inside. My dog sitting responsibilities begin in the morning. I hope it isn't too cold or at least sunny and cold or those dogs will get a very short walk. But I feel much better tonight, finally. Fresh air will do me well.
May you all be spared of this current plague which I know is making the rounds all over the NE. Patti
Glad you're feeling better, Patti. Everyone at my house was sick before Christmas. I got it the least, just a stuffy head, runny nose and sneezing. My sis and nephew both had a pretty bad cold with lots of coughing, and it dragged on for a couple of weeks.
Karen
It is 6 below without counting in the windchill!
OMG Celeste .. terrible.. too soon for that nonsense!!!
22 now going to 31
You know it's bad when the dogs don't want to go out!
Wow
We are at 13 with a high of 31
Got a few inches of light fluffy snow yesterday

Now they say is -8 all I know is it's CRAZY COLD!!!
We just put up our bird feeder and I thought the birds were having trouble finding it, never realizing that it might be too cold, Robin. I never got the chance to bury the lower part of my rose bushes, so I'm hoping that this layer of ice and snow will provide the insulation that they need. It's 16 now but going up to about 30. Hope the gardens stay covered for a while. The good thing is that they were soaked before they froze.
Wow - thought I was bad at 11!
7 F this am overnight low of 5. Noone wanted to go outside to get firewood last night. This is COLD.
11, going up to 26
9 here in Brookline, but sunny. Dogs got a short walk before I hollered uncle. Maine is too cold. I will take them out for another 5 min spin around the yard before I go to the studio for a couple hours. By the time I come back to play with them it should be up to 20. Patti
Dropped a degree to 10.
It's 9 here now....Suey's walk will be later when it warms up some.....do not like these temps at all, but Maine is worse....sorry, Pixie! Good luck with your dogs, Patti.....
9° & sunny. We are going to have to go out for groceries this afternoon.
Right now sitting on my enclosed porch, where it is 80 degrees, with 70% humidity!
I don't mind it, there is no wind
28° right now, low was 22°
23 here now. No wind here either, Jen, so I'm comfortable going from the house to the shed to collect my seed starting equipment.
I could use that porch Victor!!
temp up to 15. wow!
Actually took a nap out there, Allison!
could use that right now
This year I added a thermostatically controlled outlet which assures a better temp control. In the past it would get too cold and too hot. Lost quite a few plants - mainly from being too hot and dried out. This year I will start the caladium and other bulbs there. The elephant ears in there is loving it!
very smart
