I just planted a Taiwan Flowering Cherry on Tuesday. I'm in zone 8b which it is suited for. I just saw we have a freeze watch in effect for Sat morning. Will my new tree be ok? Do I need to cover it somehow? Not sure how I would considering its 8 feet tall..but maybe cover the ground around it?
Is new cherry tree ok in freeze?
It should be fine--cherry trees are hardy in zones much colder than 8b so I wouldn't worry about it at all. The thing you have to worry about with cherries in Florida is that you don't get enough cold weather for many varieties to bear fruit, so I wouldn't worry at all about a little freeze.
Thank you for your help. Feeling more at ease now.
