I bought a burgundy rubber plant, ruby rubber, a new spath and a rex begonia. I know they are usually seen everywhere but I'm trying to start somewhere. I'm excited.
My other PL died except for a couple of divisions that are in starter pots with 5.1.1. I think my 5.1.1 is still holding water too well because it's been almost a week since a watering. I guess I will need to adjust the ingredients some before I repot my new babies in the summer.
New Plants I recieved.
They look great, is there a flower starting on your PL ??
Yep It's a nice size one too.
Cool, show pictures when she opens
They always say we're to wait til spring to transplant, I have transplanted some in winter and I've never lost one, I think if your extremely careful it would be OK for you to go ahead and transplant since it really is pot bound, I would try to not disturb the root system, see what others have to say before you do anything, I'd hate you to loose it because of my advice.

I'm going to pot up and then wait until summer to repot
That is a good idea: With roots up at the top like that I would put it in a larger pot.
The beautiful little Ficus on the left desperately needs more root room from what I can see. Great looking group and still love that lamp!
Thanks purple. That's the next plant I'm going to pot up. I'm also thinking about trying to repot the other two plants as well. The soil retains too much water. My new rex is losing leaves left and right. I haven't watered the soil at all and it's still pretty wet.
Sounds like a good plan, I would probably do the same. Do you have a ceiling or other fan you can run a few hours a day? That would help also. I prefer a ceiling fan since other types of fans usually blow too hard even on low. We use radiators instead of the heat pump, so I keep one running all the time or there would be no air movement in here.
Do you have something you could pot the Begonia in that is much more shallow, possibly wider at the top? My neighbor gave me some rhizomatous Begonias at the beginning of summer and they never did grow as well as I thought they could. Investigation led me to believe their pots were too deep. When I repotted them in Oct., I realized the roots were very shallow, not penetrating the depths of the pot at all. I put holes in a couple big plastic saucers, the kind that come attached to plastic pots, and put them in those. They're only about 1 1/2" deep and the leaf loss has slowed way down with many new leaves coming on now. I think it's a lot happier now without all of that excess soggy soil below it.
That sounds interesting. I'll have to research that. I wonder how rex's do in 5-1-1.
