i'd like some suggestions on how to keep this arrowhead philodendron more compact. it's way too leggy and not at all attractive.

It might help if you could post some pictures & say a little more about the conditions you're growing it in. My guess would be that it's not getting enough light, that is a very common reason for houseplants to be leggy. If you don't have a brighter window you can put it in, you might try augmenting your natural light with a fluorescent shop light or something along those lines.
Cut off the parts that have gone astray. Likely, you can make new plants from the removed pieces.
