No, this is not the first time. I have some collections, and most of them are blooming.
I think they need full sun and the porous soil.

Got my first MG's at a local RU we had 2 weeks ago.

Here in Western NY there is what we call a MG but its a pain! Its like this annoying weed that growing all over my flower beds. MG's have never been planted there. Just curious if that weed is a true MG or something we just call one?

Bindweed looks similar to MG. There's a species here (can't remember the name) that particularly likes ornamental shrubs.

davids188, your probably right. They are the most intrusive things ever. Worse than the dreaded dandylion! I will be keeping a very good eye out for them this year around my knew roses. I'm so afraid they'll choke them to death or my astilbe or anything else. I'm planning on planting alyssum very thick around there as soon as weather permits. Hoping maybe that will choke them out.

I wish I could remember the name of that particular bindweed. It's on the invasive plant watch here in MA, which I only knew about because last year I read a news story about it. The state Dept of Ag was appealing to the public for help to look for it and report it. Well, I had seen that weed just that spring at my friends house - it was wrapped around her rhods and I helped her yank them out. So I went back and took pics and emailed the contact from the news story. What I'd found was not THAT bindweed (but a bindweed nonetheless although the state wasn't interested in helping her to get rid of it!). It looks very much like MG but the blooms and color seem 'weaker' for me. I'm afraid that the ground cover won't choke it out though because of the root system and it appears to thrive in the deep shade of the shrubbery. :>(

Hi newbie in Scotland here. I am learning there is such a thing as too much water. My seeds are collapsing. Is this damping off?

Damping off is fungal disease typically caused by soil or tools that are not sterile which leads to wilt/death. If you think you've merely over-watered, all may not be lost. Try a warm sunny spot to dry them out a bit. As you see they require moisture try a spray bottle mister. I have been more successful misting seeds/seedlings than 'watering' them. It's so much easier to control the amount of water and there's no such thing as over-watering. Seedlings can be fragile too and the mist is a gentler method than just dumping a wave of water over them. :>)

So pretty here are mine, they do great if I ignore them. If I pay to close attention to them I kill them.

I believe the bindweeds and the colored MGs are all Ipomea, so related.

Make that Ipomoea. Sorry!

How tall will their vines and blooms grow? Do you get many blooms on one vine? They are beautiful, would love them on my back fence!
