"Browse" button missing

Rosemont, ON(Zone 4a)

Hi all! I just tried to post a pic on a thread in the Perennials forum, and the "Browse" button for chosing a pic is missing completely. Is it just me, or what?

June

June, you're not alone. Me too. My button icon is missing as well.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

"Choose file" is the replacement for "browse". Try it, you'll like it.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

how do I do that Arlene, I don't see the icon.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

If you don't see "choose a file" button where the "browse" button was previously, try clearing your cache and cookies and logging back in. It's there, we promise :-)

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Terry, how do I clear my "cache and cookies"? I cleared out my screen, rebooted the system. Still it's not working.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Kim - If I knew how to do that I'd tell you!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Nothing there for me either...cleared everything and restarted.

This is all I see

You may upload up to 5 images. Press CTRL to select more than one image file.

Upload Images to your reply

luvsgrtdanes; that's exactly all I've on mine. What's going on? Arlene, thank you. I feel so techno. challenged! :((

So you don't see what I just uploaded from a printscreen of this page? If you hover your mouse below the words "Upload Images to your reply" does it "catch" anything (if it senses a button it should change from an arrow to a hand, or whatever your mouse settings do when they detect a button or link.)

Depending on the browser you're using you'll find your clear cache (or history) and cookies under "Tools." If you can't locate it, let me know which browser you're using and I'll try to give you step-by-step instructions.

I've tested the new uploader in IE 9 and Mozilla/Firefox. I haven't yet tried Chrome, but I haven't experienced any problems. I'm wondering - for those who are - is it possible you've put an add-on or extension on your toolbar that is blocking certain types of links? This one is really no different than any other links, but that could factor into the issue you're experiencing.

My button is missing also. The arrow doesn't change to a hand either. I logged out and logged back in and still no button. I'll try again tomorrow.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

There are 3 boxes above on Terry's frame. The choose a file (box) is missing. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks all.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I don't have the choose file box and no hovering here!

I'll log out and then restart again, then come back...see what happens...

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Still no choose file :-(

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Ok this is odd...I just checked my Nook and I am seeing "choose file" Both my laptop and my Nook run on IE.

Just logging out won't clear your cookies and history.

For starters, while you are on this page, try pressing your F5 button.
Then try holding down your shift key and press F5
Then try holding your ctrl key and press F5
(It all depends on your browser as to which should refresh your page.)

If that does not work, try clearing the browser's cache and cookies, and and then you will be forced to re-log in.

Terry, why don't you play Scarlet O'Hare, you know the one "Tomorow is anather day." Thanks for trying to help. Etelka

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

OK I've done all of the above several times and still no "choose file" button :-(

Another day, another try - and I'm still not getting a "Browse" or "Choose file" button. Absolutely nothing has changed with the software on the PC I use (it's my DH's). There must be something Dave's can do to fix this problem! I have no idea how to "clear my cookies" and even if I did it I worry that it would screw up access to other websites I and DH use. The PC is on dial-up, and takes ages to download files, so if it has to re-load a whole bunch of cookies for each website, it will take days. Please can we go back to the "Browse" function that we had before? It was working fine.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Maybe this is meant I've hung around DG way toooooo long? Maybe I need to terminate my membership and move on to other things.

Rosemont, ON(Zone 4a)

I don't want to leave Dave's, but this situation is very irritating and not what I paid for!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I'm sure it's just a glich and will be worked out. Sometimes it just takes a bit of time.

For those of you who are having problems seeing the "Choose a File" option, can you do us a favor?

1. Click on this link to report the problem you are having: http://davesgarden.com/helpdesk/dg/
2. Include the browser and version you are running
3. Specify whether you can see the "Preview" and "Send" buttons or if they are missing, too.
4. Specify if you have tried (in the test forum) to start a new thread, or if you are looking at threads previously on your "watched" threads list.
5. Specify if you have cleared your history and/or cookies or not.

That will help us gather the information we need to give to the technical team so they can work on it.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Just read on another thread that if you Click on tools and click on Compatability View to turn it off Worked for me I now see the "choose file" box!!!

Testing some pics...

Look like only one posted but could be my large files. I'll play around a bit later when I have more time. Just glad I at least see the box!

Good tip - let's see if it works for others. Thanks for sharing!

Your welcome

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Just for info. I use Google Chrome and IE. Choose file option shows up with no problem.

Still can only post one photo at a time.

Rosemont, ON(Zone 4a)

My DH reluctantly cleared all the cookies on his PC for me, but the button is still missing. I tried to follow the suggestion about the Tool function, but I don't see anything resembling Compatibility View in the dropdown box, so I guess I have a different browser than lvsgrtdanes. I have sent a bug report to the help desk programmers using the link in Terry's post.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I have it now. I just hit my compatabilty button and I think that helped. Thanks luvsgrtdanes!

Guys? Do you use antivirus programs on your computer? Norton, MacAfee, etc? These also are changing and causing IE/Chrome/ etc to lock up, and changing other programs when u remove em, let DG know what they are working with so they can help. Sigh, I need to wrestle time for a few computer classes...

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

kittriana, I use MacAfee antivirus and do have G. Chrome. I did everything I knew including removed cookies. Still I don't have access to upload my photos onto DG. Sigh*

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Lily_love, what version of Chrome are you using? Can you try a different browser temporarily - either IE or Firefox? If that resolves it, it may be specific to the version of Chrome you're running. As a rule, the developers try to optimize the site for viewing with IE, Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Terry, it's the latest verion of Chrome. I've tried Mozilla Firefox before and it didn't work for me. I need a computer wizard to help out. It's quite annoying.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Try using Chrome's "incognito" feature and see if the buttons display for you then. And if it's convenient, please go ahead and start a helpdesk "ticket" to us here: http://davesgarden.com/helpdesk/dg/ with your findings.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Terry, I've sent helpdesk the "ticket".

I'll check back this evening.
Thanks.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thank you! Please keep in mind it is the weekend. We'll do our best to respond promptly, but speaking for myself, I've got some errands to run and a garden that desperately needs my attention :-)
