How green is your grass?

Why CAN'T I have green grass in the winter????? I am quite used to the grass going brown in the summer back home due to lack of water but in the winter? I have never heard of it and cannot understand it. Surely there is a way to have green grass all year round with watering!

Very green! The clover is really into peak season right now. Flowers everywhere! We also overseed our lawn with winter rye, so it is green year round. Dh also mows lawns and our phone has been ringing off the wall for the past two weeks, seems like he is picking up at least 2 new jobs every other day...LIsa

My pastures are starting to turn green. Its hard to notice when you look at them all day every day, but there is definitely a very green tint to them. When you get close, you find very large clusters of grass coming in real strong. I figure I'm going to have to hook up the deck to the tractor within 2 weeks and get out there and mow! I'm looking forward to this, so I can get these clippings for my compost pile.

Bermuda grass is what a lot of homes have, and in my opinion it is the worst grass you can put in. It is so finicky, dying in the winter and summer, green only in the spring (for 3 weeks) and maybe a couple weeks in the fall.

People planted Bermuda in both Atlanta and Dallas (two places I've lived) and I just cannot understand it.

Kentucky bluegrass is what I have here in TN, and it stayed fairly green through the winter.

Fescue is another good choice, in my opinion.

Since I am on an anti-lawn grass crusade..lol..I am always turning over lawn for new bedding areas (wildflower, ornamental grasses, cottage, cut flower, butterfly, etc...), as well as encouraging the moss to take over the other spots. The moss has been green all winter and it looks so manicured..he he. My goal..never to mow again!

Grass goes dormant during the harsh weater of winter and summer and grows during fall and spring. ours id nice and brown with some shoots greening up on warm days. I rather like the muted earth tones of the winter landscape.

Different strokes for different folks. During the winter, I get a little tired of seeing brown everywhere I look, so a bit of green in my lawn is a welcome respite.

I mowed a bit today - enough to fill my bag and mix it in with my compost. :)

I have to say that I love clover and it does stay green. Maybe this is the answer we all need. I just think it came as a bit of a shock to me to see 'dead' grass in the winter. As you say Dave, to each his own. I expect the grass to brown due to the lack of water in the hot months but in the winter - it was a shock to my system. It's like taking a sip from a cup thinking it is coffee and being a little surprised when you find out you're drinking tea. That probably doesn't make sense to you all but I know what I mean .....lol
