What is wrong with these Bradford Pear trees?

Greenville, MS

Hi, I planted 5 Bradford Pear trees a few months ago and the leaves are turning black and falling off....I know very little about plants and trees and am hoping someone can tell me what the problem is and what to do to fix it.... We are in Greenville, Mississippi and there has been very little rain this summer but we water the trees regularly and they were planted exactly as the instructions told us...depth, hole size, potting soil, mulch, etc...

I have attached two pics.. one close up of a leaf and the other of the whole tree.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited!

Hey there, I just found your post almost 2 years after you posted it. This evening I walked outside to find my 10-year-old, healthy Bradford Pear had suddenly developed black leaves that were just falling off. Kind of heart breaking. I see there were no replies to you in 2012 which is discouraging. Wondering if you found a reason for this condition and what the outcome was.

the first post with pictures could be a case of too much watering. it's a shame when no one responds since you never really find out what the problem was. his could have also been sunburn as happens with newly planted trees sometimes. for a ten yr. old tree, i have no idea.

here's an interesting article: http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/191/#b
