When to plant carrots and radishes for fall

My carrots and radishes that I planted in the spring didn't do so hot, but from what I've read on here, noone else's did either, due to the extreme heat this year. My extension agency recommends planting carrots around the first of July, and radishes around the first of August. What do those of you in my zone (or close) think?

Try googling "fall planting calendar X county, state" and see if you can find a planting calendar for your area.
